Winter Art Show starts this week

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Winter Show runs Jan. 8 through Feb. 3 at Gallery 119 in Pendleton, 119 W. State St.

A First Friday event runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 8.

Gary Brummet will judge the show, with a $50 award for first place, $30 for second place and $20 for third place.

Attendees will be able to vote for their favorite artwork for the People’s Choice Award.

The show will be on display during regular gallery hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The show is sponsored by Dr. Kenneth Lau.

The gallery is open to the public. There is a store, and people can sign up for art classes.

Gallery 119 offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 is offering art classes with a limited number of students.

The next scheduled class is:

• Oil Painting with Gini Deaton — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10 (with short breaks). Open to all levels of painter. Subject will be piece “Elephant Walk.” Participants are welcome to bring snacks and drinks. Cost is $50 and includes all art supplies. People are asked to bring paper towels.

• Enamel Class with Diane Burrell — from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 12 and 19. Burrell will teach participants to create and make decals and use silkscreens to create a single- and two-sided pendant. People will be allowed to create their own design or use one provided. Cost is $50 and includes supplies.Beginners welcome.

• Pottery Class (colored stains) with Janae Ledbetter — morning session (10 a.m. to noon) or evening session (6 to 8 p.m.) on Jan. 13, 20 and 27, and Feb. 3 (glazing on Feb. 17). This class is for all skill levels. Participants can bring their own ideas or allow Ledbetter guide them. She will teach how to use Mason Stains to color white clay and techniques that will allow students to create their own pottery. Class fee is $100 and includes supplies and two firings. Each student is given 12 pounds of clay and will get to pick up to four stain colors.

• Jewelry Class with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 6 p.m. Jan. 24. Davidson will teach participants to design in 3-D, solder, form and texture a silver bouquet necklace. Class fee is $50 and includes supplies and tools.

Anderson museum calls for artists

ANDERSON — Anderson Museum of Art seeks artists for its new exhibition “Live, Laugh, Love.”

The show aims to celebrate the beauty of where people live, the things that make them happy, and the people, experiences or items they love.

Artwork dropoff is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 6-8.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Jan. 14 to Feb. 21.

The cost to enter the show is $25, with a $10 discount for AMOA members.

Artists selected as category winners will be given the opportunity to exhibit a collection of their work in the summer of 2021 at the museum.
