HHBA regular season begins Saturday

PENDLETON — The inaugural regular season of the Hoosier Hardwood Basketball Association, a new professional basketball league founded by former Indiana University great Kent Benson and former Pendleton resident Bob Petty, will begin Saturday.

The Pendleton Legends, one of four teams in the fledgling league, will play host to its opener on Saturday, March 6, at Pendleton Heights High School. The Legends will take on the Terre Haute Sharp Shooters.

Game time is 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a junior basketball game at 6:30 p.m. and a slam dunk contest at 6:45 p.m.

Tickets for the game cost $10 and can be purchased online at www.MVPresults.com/Pendleton.

The Legends team features former Pendleton Heights and Butler University star Kellen Dunham, along with former Madison County high school standouts Asauhn Tatum, from Highland High School and Auburn University and Troy Taylor, from Anderson High School and the University of Evansville.

Former Indiana All-Star Eugene German, who played at 21st Century High School in Gary and Northern Illinois University, is another standout on the Legends roster. He had 60 points in an exhibition game during the preseason.

On Sunday, the Legends are on the road taking on the Southern Indiana Timberjacks at Medora High School in Medora. Game time is 5 p.m.

Other games this weekend include the New Castle Nighthawks playing host to the Timberjacks 7 p.m. Saturday at Blue River High School.

On Sunday, the Nighthawks travel to Terre Haute to take on the Sharp Shooters in a 7 p.m. contest at Gerstmeyer Gym.
