PENDLETON —Threatening e-mails sent to Pendleton Heights Middle School teachers Tuesday morning were found to be not credible, according to South Madison Community School Corp. Superintendent Mark Hall.
An alert was sent out from principal Jennifer Chestnut to middle school employees about “an unsubstantiated threat to our school.”
Hall said, initially, it appeared the email, sent to a few teachers at the school, was from inside the district. Investigation into the matter showed the e-mail came from outside of the United States.
“Once we checked the IP address, it ended up being nothing. We put an alert out, because we didn’t want to people think there was an issue. It ended up being a whole lot about nothing,” Hall said. “It came in and looked like it was from someone inside our district, but it wasn’t.”
The emails were recognized at the beginning of the school day. Hall said there were a few extra police cars at the school while things were being sorted out.
“The school day was not disrupted. It was quickly determined that it was not a credible threat,” Hall said.
Chestnut’s note addressed to the PHMS Family stated, “We take student safety very seriously and continue to take precautions to ensure everyone is safe.”
Hall said Pendleton Police Department is still investigating the issue.
