PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School senior Grace McKinney and incoming sophomore Mallory Gentry, swimming for Pendleton Swim Club (PSC), competed at the Indiana Swimming Senior Long Course State Championship, July 15 to 18, at Pike Aquatic Center in Indianapolis.
McKinney swam four events: 50-, 200-, 400- and 800-meter freestyle events. Gentry swam 50-, 100- and 200-meter freestyle races.
The 600 best club and collegiate senior athletes qualified to participate during the four-day event.
It was the first Indiana long course championship meet since the summer of 2019, because of the pandemic.

The statewide meet marked the end of summer competition for the senior group.
Swimmers will turn their attention to the start of short course club season in preparation for the 2021-22 high school season.
For the younger club swimmers, Nathan Hollendonner will represent PSC at the Indiana Swimming Age Group Long Course State Championships on July 24, competing in the 50-meter freestyle at Forest Park Aquatic Center in Noblesville.
PSC is an organization for competitive youth swimmers ages 5 to 18, competing at local, state and national meets throughout the year.
Many club swimmers go on to compete on the Pendleton Heights middle and high school teams, but the club serves all skill levels.
The next swim season will start after Labor Day.
PSC also offers swim lessons and lifeguard certification.
