PENDLETON —A section of State Street west of downtown will soon be closed daily for about a three-week span, as construction work takes place on Franklin and State streets.
The main east-west route through town is scheduled to be closed between West and Adams streets from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, starting Wednesday, July 28.
The daily closures are expected to last through Aug. 16 but will continue until the work is complete.
During the project, westbound State Street traffic will be detoured south on West Street, west on High Street and north on Adams Street.
High Street will be one-way westbound during the project.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured south on Adams Street, east on Taylor Street, and north on West Street.

An upcoming construction project will close a two-block section of State Street during the day for about three weeks. The detour includes making High Street between West and Adams streets one-way for westbound motorists. (Map does not show all area streets and alleys.) Amanda Cornelius | The Times-Post

Temporary no-parking signs will be posted on Adams, High, Franklin, Taylor, State and West streets in the project area.
Franklin Street residents will have access to their properties during construction.
Franklin Street between Taylor Street and State Street will receive new curbs, sidewalk, water main and stormwater line, and road surface, town manager Scott Reske said. The work also will include stormwater laterals to property lines, where residents can connect to things such as gutters and sump pumps.
On State Street, a collapsed stormline will be replaced.
State Street will also be resurfaced between Main Street and the county bridge near American Legion Post 117. Reske said State Street will be closed for a couple of days at a later date to do most of that work.
Calumet Civil Contractors Inc. of Whitestown will do the work. Pendleton Town Council approved a $1.47 million bid in June.
Much of the cost for the project comes from an Indiana Department of Transportation Community Crossings Matching Grant. The town received a grant of $820,317.
