Gallery 119 offers classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 offers art classes on a regular basis.

The next classes are:

Paint With Diane Burrell — 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13. Burrell will teach how to use color and strong contrast with reds while painting a “Hibiscus in Acrylic.” Cost of the class is $35 and includes all supplies. All levels of painters are welcome.

• Oil Painting with Gini Deaton — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15. Deaten will teach step by step how to paint a country church that is ready for “Evening Prayers.” Cost is $55 and includes supplies. Participants are asked to bring paper towels.

• Watercolor painting with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 28. Participants will paint “Sunflower and Butterfly” using watercolors. Beginning painters are welcome. All supplies are provided with the class fee of $45 per person.

• Jewelry Class With Tracy Davidson — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29. In this beginner class for ages 12 and up, Davidson will teach texturing, soldering and forming to create a copper and silver forged earrings. Cost is $50 and includes use of tools and all supplies.

‘Art of Friendship’ auction is on

PENDLETON — Artwork produced through “The Art of Friendship,” a collaboration between Pendleton Best Buddies Citizens and Pendleton Artists Society, is being sold by silent auction through Friday, Aug. 6.

Best Buddies Citizens is a non-profit that supports friendships between adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities, to foster an inclusive and diverse community for all. Creating opportunities for social interaction is a key strategy of the chapter.

Pendleton Artists Society is a non-profit that aims to build and support a community of artists and art enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. The goal is to enrich the cultural climate, economic vitality and quality of life.

Revenue generated from the auction will be used to support “The Art of Friendship” program.

Bids may be made at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St., Pendleton, or by phone (765-778-0986) during business hours, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays; or by going to the website PASgallery119.org or the gallery’s Facebook page.

Sorority chapter plans jamboree meal

MARKLEVILLE — Psi Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, Markleville, will play host to its annual Chicken & Noodle Dinner from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at the Markleville Community Park shelter house during the Markleville Jamboree. (See Page 1 for jamboree preview story.)

The dinner will include chicken noodles; mashed potatoes; green beans or applesauce; dessert; and iced tea or lemonade.

The cost is $9 for people 11 and older, and $5 for those ages 3 to 10. There is no charge for children 2 and younger to eat.

The sorority also will have a gift card tree raffle.

Summer concert set for Aug. 29

PENDLETON — Summer Concerts in the Park continue at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, with Madison County Band Directors Jazz Band and Pendleton Heights High School Marching Band

People are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs. Organizers remind people to be prepared for sun (hats, sunglasses, etc.).

Lions will serve hot dogs, drinks and snacks.

Markleville Jamboree set this weekend

MARKLEVILLE — Markleville Jamboree is set for Aug. 6-7 at Markleville Community Park.

The town has many events planned, including a Mounds Park DNR presentation, animal show, eating contest and more.

Organizers are seeking volunteer entertainment for the free stage — singers, dancers, comedians and more.

There are spots for concessions, as well as booth space for crafts, direct sales, jewelry, flea market items and rummage.

Organizers are also accepting parade entries.

Pendleton Heights Class of ’76 to gather

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School Class of 1976’s reunion is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Pendleton American Legion.

It features a barbecue-style picnic dinner, cash bar and live music.

Cost is $30 cash at door ($55 per couple).
