Much more than a market

PENDLETON — Pendleton Farmers Market provides a local spot for people to pick up fresh produce, plants, crafts and many other goods on a weekly basis through the summer.
While people are shopping — whether they’ve arrived early to get the best pickings or later still hoping for the best — one can often view artisans making their wares, musicians making their music and others simply enjoying the park in the midst of it all.

Story continues under photos.

The market — which has a motto, “Bringing a Community Together” — is set to run from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Oct. 9.
On Saturday, Aug. 7, there will be a couple of added events.
Kids’ Entrepreneur Day takes place on the first Saturday of the month during market season.
Organizer Ana Blake said there are about 10 children signed up to have a booth on Aug. 7.
Also, to celebrate National Farmers Market Week (Aug. 1-7), the Pendleton market plans a raffle.
“”Each time someone makes a purchase at a booth, they are entered into a drawing to win a basket of goodies from each vendor at the market,” she said.
The drawing will take place after the market closes.
The cost to have a booth in the market is $10 per week or $40 for the season. There is no charge for children’s booths.
There is an application to complete.
