Lapel girl golf season will be ‘tough … fun’

LAPEL — Lapel girls golf is led by senior Macy Beeson, who will be going for her third state title in as many years.

Only two other players have won the title three years in a row. The last time was in 2000 with Leigh Anne Hardin of Martinsville.

“Macy is a once in a century player, having two state titles under her belt,” coach Dylan Crosley said. “If there is any pressure, it won’t last long.

“She is one of the most confident players I’ve seen as a coach. I believe she will be the third player in IHSAA history to win three state championships in her career. It’s going to be an amazing send-off.”

Crosley’s other two seniors — Grace Martin and Rosemary Likens — have improved from last season.

“This year will be tough but a lot of fun,” Crosley said. “We have to improve day by day and not get down on bad days”

The Bulldogs hope to retain their Madison County title, but Crosley believes Pendleton Heights will be in the running as well.

Last season’s record: 14-1

Returning golfers: Macy Beeson, Grace Martin, Rosemary Likens

Promising newcomers: Freshmen Elly Carey, Jordi Pilkington, Chloe Sasser
