Tennis team has the potential to surprise

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights tennis coach Royce Hammel said he thinks his team is teeming with potential this year.

Along with returning varsity players Sam Bowers, Austin Perney, Mark Nielsen and Cole Bubenzer, the Arabians have other varsity players from last season vying for the remaining slots on the court.

With 23 out for the team and a host of talented freshmen, Hammel has a deep pool to pull from.

“Again, we have the potential to be good up and down the lineup,” Hammel said. “We’ll have two to three looking for singles’ spots, and whoever doesn’t win plays into a possible doubles position with another two to three looking to play, too.”

“We have the potential to surprise some opponents,” Hammel said.
