Legion plans market, other activities

PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, has the following events — open to members and non-members — planned.

• Pendleton Legion’s 102nd birthday, Feb. 17

• Band: OnAir, 7 p. m. Feb. 18

• American Red Cross Blood Donation Station — 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 22

• Legion Indoor Market — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 25

Other regular events include:

• All-you-can-eat wing night, 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, with all-you-can-eat wings $12

• Weekdays starting at 11 a.m — lunch specials (normal menu items also available)

• On Fridays, tenderloins are available starting at noon; a Treasure Hunt drawing takes place at 7:30 p.m.

• On Sundays, free pool and Football Sunday, starting at noon. People are invited to wear their team colors.

• The Legion’s general membership meeting is set for 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month.

Pendleton museum talks planned

PENDLETON — Pendleton Historical Museum’s speaker program continues this year, with three talks remaining.

During the two-hour event, there will be time for questions from those in attendance.

Weather permitting, the remaining schedule will be as follows.

March 12 — Lance Stevens on Civil War Maj. Samuel Henry

April 16 — Nancy Wynant on the 200th anniversary of the Pendleton Methodist Church.

The museum is located on Falls Park Drive in Falls Park.

Gallery 119 offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 offers art classes on a regular basis.

Children’s Art Classes take place on the second Saturday each month. Classes are taught by a variety of teachers. Each class is independent and will need its own registration.

Registration for classes can be completed at the gallery, 119 W. State St., Pendleton; by phone at 765-778-0986 during regular business hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays; or online at PASgallery119.org/events.

CASA schedules meeting, training

ANDERSON — East Central Indiana CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) has two upcoming events for people interested in helping abused and neglected children.

• Coffee and CASA, is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 3538 Mounds Road, Anderson. This will be an informal gathering for those interested in learning about volunteering. People can learn about the responsibilities, training and rewards of being a child advocate.

• CASA training is scheduled to begin Monday, March 6. Each prospective volunteer attends 32 hours of training before being sworn in by the court to be a CASA.

Madison County has more than 1,100 substantiated cases of child abuse and neglect. More than 400 of the children are waiting for a CASA to advocate for their best interest in decisions about a safe, permanent home.

Talks will explore county’s history

ANDERSON — Madison County Historical Society Inc. is presenting a series of “First Sunday” presentations covering the History of Madison County, set for 2 p.m. monthly in the Bowman Room at Museum of Madison County History, 11 W. 11th St., Anderson.

Madison County Historian Stephen T. Jackson delivers the presentations, which provide an overview of Madison County’s history through historical highlights of each township.

Presentations will run about an hour each and are free.

Following the presentation, at about 3 p.m., Jackson will be signing his new book “Historic Events in a County Called Madison: The 20th Century.” This book and others will be available to purchase.

The remaining talks are:

April 2: Richland Township

May 7: Monroe Township

June 4: Lafayette Township

July 2: Van Buren Township

Aug. 6: Boone Township

Sept. 3: Duck Creek Township

Oct. 1: Stony Creek Township
