ArtFest is coming up

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s ArtFest — an event that will include a dinner and a variety of auctions — is set for April 21 at Crystal Coop, 3400 W. 53rd St., Anderson.
“This is our annual fundraiser,” PAS events chairwoman Karen Zane said. “This is basically our main income for the year, to function.”
Many PAS events don’t have a charge — such as the monthly First Friday art show openings at its home base, Gallery 119 — but ArtFest is designed to generate funds to operate the gallery and expand its arts offerings.
ArtFest proceeds fund “the upkeep of the building and supply any art equipment we may need,” Zane said.
Previous ArtFest funds helped pay the 50% match of a South Madison Community Foundation grant to purchase two new pottery wheels, which cost $4,000.
A similar grant is in the works to purchase a new art press for about $1,000.
Adding each new piece of equipment “gives us a whole variety of classes that we can have.”
ArtFest, which started in 2014, will have a Mexican theme this year, Zane said. Nameless Catering will provide a Mexican food buffet.
There will be a cash bar.
Fundraising activities will include raffles, games and artwork auctions.
Tickets for the Art of Fine Dining raffle will cost $10 each or $20 for three. They can be bought at the ArtFest or purchased in advance at the gallery, 119 W. State St.
Prizes include more than $300 in gift cards from Sahm’s Smokehouse, The Stable, Sophie’s Bagels, Los Maguelles, Falls Perk Coffee House, Taylor’s Bar and Table, Smith Family Farms, Ohanalulu, Anita’s Kitchen, Maxwell Meat and Butcher Shop, Viva La Juice and Pendleton Nutrition.
There will be a live auction for a variety of artwork, created primarily by members of the artists society.
Included in the live auction will be pieces created through the Art of Friendship program. That program is a collaboration between PAS and Pendleton Citizens Best Buddies, a program that brings together adults with and without intellectual disabilities for social interaction. Funds raised from the sale of this artwork are earmarked for the Art of Friendship program.
There will also be a game called Heads and Tails, which will involve maracas and coin tosses to determine the winner of a $200 prize. Maracas for use in the game cost $5 each or three for $10.
There will also be a silent auction for a variety of theme baskets.
Doors at ArtFest will open at 5:30 p.m. People will have a chance to peruse the art that will be up for auction and buy raffle tickets before dinner is served.
Tickets for ArtFest cost $30 and may be purchased at the gallery or at 765-778-0986 during regular business hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Tickets also can be purchased at gallery119.org.
Deadline to buy ArtFest tickets is April 16.
People can also donate to ArtFest by sending a check to Gallery 119, Attention ArtFest.
Donations of $100 or more will be listed as a sponsor in the program and on social media.
