Indoor market offers variety, one more sale this season

PENDLETON — Pendleton resident Adam Ballart and his son Aidan made a planned trip to the indoor market at American Legion Post 117 on Saturday, March 25, after having read a notice about the event.
“I think he just likes to look around and see what’s out there,” Adam said, explaining that Aiden was the driving force behind the visit.
About 20 vendors sold a variety of homemade and handcrafted items, from food and drink items to furniture and home decor.
The sale is one of many that take place at the Legion during the colder months of the year. There’s one more left this season, set for April 29.
“Keep it simple,” said Col. Dave Skalon, Legion second vice commander, describing the legion’s approach to the market.
The Legion charges vendors $10 for a booth, which makes it very affordable for them, while serving the Legion’s push to make a stronger connection with the community, Skalon said.
Larry Gilbert of Markleville, who said he’s has been woodworking since 1965, and “serious about it for 15 to 20 years” — had a booth at the Legion for the first time on Saturday.
He was selling mostly wooden items, along with some metalworks, including lamps made from old blow torches.
Lige Hensley of Middletown also was selling a variety of woodworks, including bird and bat houses, as well as games, such as a horse race game involving cards and dice.
Karen Haskell of Muncie set up her booth for her business “It’s the Dip,” selling dip and cheesecake mixes.
Skalon said in addition to the April 29 sale — which will include outdoor booths, weather permitting — the Legion will let people set up tables on Saturday, May 6, during the Highway 38 Sale.
Also during the Highway 38 Sale, Sons of the American Legion will grill from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., also weather permitting.
