Arabians boys and girls take third at Burris Invitational

MUNCIE — Both of the Pendleton Heights boys and girls track and field teams competed in the Muncie Burris Invitational on Saturday.

The top three teams were the same on both sides. In the boys meet, Connersville (115) and New Haven (115) tied for first, and Pendleton Heights (94) finished in third. Connersville won the girls meet with 125 points, New Haven had 122 and Pendleton Heights finished with 107.

Rounding out the boys’ scores were Horizon Christian (63), Northeastern (56), Seton Catholic (54), Muncie Burris (32), Lincoln (19), Southern Wells (17), and Liberty Christian (10). On the girls’ side, following the top three were Northeastern (54), Southern Wells (46), Horizon Christian (42), Seton Catholic (36), Muncie Burris (31), and Lincoln (6).

Leading the Arabians to the third-place finishes were a pair of individual winners for both the boys and girls teams.

Andrew Blake won the 1,600-meter with a time of 4:38.35, and Layne Richardson took home the top spot in the long jump for the boys, while Ava Jarrell won both the 800-meter and 1,600-meter races, and Whitney Warfel topped the shot put field for the girls.

Blake added a runner-up finish in the 800-meter, and the Arabains took both second and third place in the boys shot put. Sophomore Gabe Martin was second, while junior Reis Schnepp was third.

Jaycee Thurman, as well as all three relay teams, grabbed a top three finish for the girls.

Thurman finished in third in the 3200-meter, the 4×100 relay placed third, and both the 4×400 and 4×800 teams placed second.

Both teams are back in action Friday for the Madison County meet.
