Gallery plans art show
PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society is playing host to the 2023 Pendleton Heights Senior Art Show through today, April 20, at Gallery 119 in Pendleton.
The 5th Congressional District High School Art Show also is set for April 25 to May 3 in the gallery.
The public is welcome to view the shows during business hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
The gallery is located at 119 W. State St.
Children’s Art Classes take place on the second Saturday each month. Classes are taught by a variety of teachers. Each class is independent and will need its own registration.

Legion plans activities
PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, has planned the following events — open to members and non-members.
Karaoke — 8-11 p.m. April 21
Karaoke — 8-11 p.m. April 28
Red Cross Blood Drive — 1-5 p.m. May 17. Register at www.redcrossblood.org.
Other regular events include:
All-you-can-eat wing night is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Thursdays, with all-you-can-eat wings costing $12
Lunch specials (as well as regular menu) — starting at 11 a.m. weekdays
Tenderloins available Fridays — starting at noon; a Treasure Hunt drawing takes place at 7:30 p.m.
Pool on Sunday — beginning at noon, no charge
The Legion’s general membership meeting is set for 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month.
People interested in playing on a tournament euchre team or pool team should call or stop by the post and talk to Dave or Haley.

Shred Day set for April 22
PENDLETON — SecurEstate’s 12th annual Shred Day is set for 9-11 a.m. April 22.
This event is open to the public, providing secure onsite shredding services at no cost.
There’s also no limit to the amount of paper people can bring, and people can watch while all the paper they bring is shredded on site.
This is a drive-thru drop-off service. People are asked to enter the parking lot off Main Street.
SecurEstate is located at 100 S. Main St., Pendleton.
Par-Tee Ladies golf set to start season
PENDLETON — The Par-Tee Ladies League at Fall Creek Golf Course plans to start its 2023 season with a Putt-Off / Kick-Off informal meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, April 24.
The public is invited to enjoy camaraderie, make friends, test their putting skills and hear what’s planned for the 2023 season.
It costs $50 to join the Par-tee Ladies league.
Greens fees are discounted at $15 for nine holes with a cart and $20 for 18 holes with a cart during league play.
The putt-off tournament will be set up on the practice putting green.
Talks will explore county’s history
ANDERSON — Madison County Historical Society Inc. offers a series of “First Sunday” presentations covering the History of Madison County, set for 2 p.m. monthly in the Bowman Room at Museum of Madison County History, 11 W. 11th St., Anderson.
Madison County Historian Stephen T. Jackson delivers the presentations, which provide an overview of Madison County’s history through historical highlights.
Presentations will run about an hour each and are free.
Following the presentation, at about 3 p.m., Jackson will sign his book “Historic Events in a County Called Madison: The 20th Century.” This book and others will be available to purchase.

Church group plans abundance meal
MARKLEVILLE — Christian Women’s Fellowship “Comfort Keepers” of East Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 124 E. Main St. in Markleville (East State Road 38), plans its monthly “God Abundance Meal” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, in the lower fellowship hall of the church.
Menu will be chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, assorted desserts and drink.
Dine in or carry out.
The facility is accessible to people with disabilities.
The next monthly meal is set for June 14.
Garden group plans plant, rummage sale
ALEXANDRIA — Madison County Master Gardener Plant and Rummage Sale is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at Madison County 4-H Farm Bureau Building, 512 E. Fourth St., Alexandria.
Items for sale will include gloves, soil knives, beneficial insect and pollinator seeds, kokedeamas, lily bulbs, hostas, vegetables and a variety of perenials and annual plants.
Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions.
Town to conduct meeting on growth
PENDLETON — The Town of Pendleton plans a meeting about growth at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Town Hall.
It will be a public session for input on growth and quality of life.
A Zoom link will be available for the meeting, with information posted on the town’s website calendar.
The town conducted previous meetings on Pendleton’s present and projected growth, and the plans the town has put in place to address it.
Class of 1978 reunion planned
PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School Class of 1978 is planning its 45th reunion for Sept. 16.
