Talks explore county’s history

ANDERSON — Madison County Historical Society Inc. offers a series of “First Sunday” presentations covering the History of Madison County, set for 2 p.m. monthly in the Bowman Room at Museum of Madison County History, 11 W. 11th St., Anderson.

Madison County Historian Stephen T. Jackson delivers the presentations, which provide an overview of Madison County’s history through historical highlights.

Presentations run about an hour each and are free.

Following the presentation, at about 3 p.m., Jackson will sign his book “Historic Events in a County Called Madison: The 20th Century.” This book and others

will be available to purchase.

The remaining talks are set for:

July 2: Van Buren Township

Aug. 6: Boone Township

Sept. 3: Duck Creek Township

Oct. 1: Stony Creek Township

Nov. 5: Madison County

4th at the Falls set for Tuesday

PENDLETON — The annual 4th at the Falls Independence Day celebration, presented by Main Street Pendleton, is set for Tuesday, July 4, at the Pendleton Sports Complex.

Festivities begin at 4:30 p.m. with food trucks parked throughout the circle drive, along with a beer garden for attendees ages 21 and older.

The food trucks will consist of Bigg Higg, Pork Paradise, Greek’s Pizzeria, Twisters, Yummerful Ice Cream and Charmed Cookies.

The Beer Garden is being put on by The Stable.

Live music will take place from 5:30-10 p.m. An acoustic set by Disagreeable will kick off the evening from 5:30-7 p.m, and The Corey Cox Band will play from 8-10 p.m.

The event will conclude with a firework show by Ramsey’s Pyrotechnics starting at 10 p.m.

PAS registering for art camp

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society at Gallery 119 is accepting registrations for Kids Art Camp for July 10-14.

The theme this year is “Art Sparks Imagination.”

Artists will teach children through age-appropriate art work, culminating in an open house to show participant art on Friday, July 14.

Morning sessions (9 to 11:30 a.m.) or afternoon sessions (12:30 to 3 p.m.) are available Monday to Friday for ages 6-12.

Ages 12 and up will meet from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Register at the gallery, 119 W. State St., Pendleton, or at 765-778-0986 during regular business hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Classes are limited.

Legion plans activities

PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, plans the following events — open to members and non-members:

All-you-can-eat wing night is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Thursdays, with all-you-can-eat wings costing $12

Lunch specials (as well as regular menu) — starting at 11 a.m. weekdays

Tenderloins available Fridays — starting at noon; a Treasure Hunt drawing takes place at 7:30 p.m.

Pool on Sunday — beginning at noon, no charge

The Legion’s general membership meeting is set for 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month.

People interested in playing on a tournament euchre team or pool team should call or stop by the post and talk to Dave or Haley.

PENDLETON — A blessing of Pendleton’s new Safe Haven Baby Box is set for 6 p.m. July 10 at South Madison Fire Territory – Pendleton Station, 100 S. Broadway St.

Duck race organizers seek helpers

PENDLETON — Volunteers are needed to help with the 10th annual Lucky Duck Race in Falls Park this summer.

The event — which is run by Friends of the Pendleton Community Library and benefits library programs — is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9; helpers are needed on race day as well as at certain times prior.

Volunteers will work with members of the event team, and those interested should send an email with name and phone number to [email protected].

Library summer reading ongoing

PENDLETON — Pendleton Community Public Library’s 2023 Summer Reading Program “Peace, Love, and Reading!” runs to July 14, with people of all ages able to participate.

Patrons can use Beanstack at pendleton.beanstack.org and to preregister.

For non-computer users, there will be paper editions available beginning June 1.

All program participation earn prizes, including gift cards to local businesses.

The Teen Summer Reading Program will have many prizes and a variety of teen programs.

The library website calendar will highlight craft programs, a breakout room event, after-hours in-library games, live birds, tacos and cartoons, create your own board game, and a painting class.

The majority of the

library’s summer reading events require registration in advance.

The children’s program will include a movie afternoon, craft events and a breakout room.

The age limits: Children’s program — infants to entering sixth grade; teen program — sixth-12th grade; adult program — 18 and older.

Class of 1983 reunion coming up

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Heights High School Class of 1983 reunion is set for 6 p.m. to midnight July 15 at American Legion Post 117, located at 611 W. State St., Pendleton.

The cost is $35 per person, or $65 per couple.

People must register by July 8.

The event is for the Class of 1983 only. It is not a multi-year reunion.

The reunion Facebook group is called “PHHS Class of 1983.”

Church group plans abundance meal

MARKLEVILLE — Christian Women’s Fellowship “Comfort Keepers” of East Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 124 E. Main St. in Markleville (East State Road 38), plans its monthly “God Abundance Meal” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, in the lower fellowship hall of the church.

Menu will be chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, assorted desserts and drink.

Dine in or carry out.

The facility is accessible to people with disabilities.

Lions’ concert series starts June 25

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Lions Club Concerts in the Park Series continues Sunday, July 30, with a performance by Corey Cox.

The show is set to start at 6 p.m. near the gazebo in Pendleton’s Falls Park.

There is no admission charge, refreshments are available, and people can bring their own lawn chairs and shade umbrellas.

The next performances is set for Sunday, Aug. 27 — Pendleton Heights High School Marching Arabians and Madison County Band Directors’ Orchestra.

Class of 1978 reunion planned
