Member showcase, art class on tap

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Artists Society Member Showcase runs through Aug. 2 at Gallery 119 in Pendleton.

The artists society also offers art classes, including:

• Copper Roses Fabrication with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 6 p.m. July 30. Participants will make two copper roses. They will cut out pieces with metal sheers, brazing, and forming. These may be colored with flame or textured with a patina.

The cost is $60 and includes all supplies.

Children’s Art Classes take place on the second Saturday each month. Classes are taught by a variety of teachers. Each class is independent and will need its own registration.

The gallery’s regular hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Legion plans activities

PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, plans the following events — open to members and non-members:

All-you-can-eat wing night is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Thursdays, with all-you-can-eat wings costing $12

Lunch specials (as well as regular menu) — starting at 11 a.m. weekdays

Tenderloins available Fridays — starting at noon; a Treasure Hunt drawing takes place at 7:30 p.m.

Pool on Sunday — beginning at noon, no charge

The Legion’s general membership meeting is set for 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month.

People interested in playing on a tournament euchre team or pool team should call or stop by the post and talk to Dave or Haley.

Homemakers plant sale at fair

ALEXANDRIA — Madison County Extension Homemakers Plant Sale is taking place at the 4-H Fair

Potted houseplants, perennials and bulbs will be sold in the Extension Homemaker booth located in the Commercial Building.

Exhibit hours are 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 22, to Saturday, July 27.

Proceeds are used to fund community service projects conducted throughout the year.

Plants are donated by Madison County Extension Homemaker members and community vendors.

Duck race organizers seek helpers

PENDLETON — Volunteers are needed to help with the 10th annual Lucky Duck Race in Falls Park this summer.

The event — which is run by Friends of the Pendleton Community Library and benefits library programs — is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9; helpers are needed on race day as well as at certain times prior.

Volunteers will work with members of the event team, and those interested should send an email with name and phone number to [email protected].

Specific volunteer times include:

8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Aug. 19 — Ohanalulu’s Donuts & Ice Cream, 106 W. State Street

Fire territory serves up ice cream social

MARKEVILLE — Adams-Markleville Fire Territory Station 10 Association will play host to its annual ice cream social from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 29 at the station, 7457 S. County Road 200E, Markleville.

Serving K-burgers, chips, desserts and ice cream.

There will be activities for all ages, including Spray House, Smoke House Simulator, antique fire truck rides, air medical helicopter and representatieves from Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

Tables and chairs will be set up again so people can visit with friends and neighbors.

Lions’ concert series continues July 30

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Lions Club Concerts in the Park Series continues Sunday, July 30, with a performance by Corey Cox.

The show is set to start at 6 p.m. near the gazebo in Pendleton’s Falls Park.

There is no admission charge, refreshments are available, and people can bring their own lawn chairs and shade umbrellas.

The next performances is set for Sunday, Aug. 27 — Pendleton Heights High School Marching Arabians and Madison County Band Directors’ Orchestra.

Talks explore county’s history

ANDERSON — Madison County Historical Society Inc. offers a series of “First Sunday” presentations covering the History of Madison County, set for 2 p.m. monthly in the Bowman Room at Museum of Madison County History, 11 W. 11th St., Anderson.

Madison County Historian Stephen T. Jackson delivers the presentations, which provide an overview of Madison County’s history through historical highlights.

Presentations run about an hour each and are free.

Following the presentation, at about 3 p.m., Jackson will sign his book “Historic Events in a County Called Madison: The 20th Century.” This book and others

will be available to purchase.

The remaining talks are set for:

Sept. 3: Duck Creek Township

Oct. 1: Stony Creek Township

Nov. 5: Madison County

• The historical society presents “A Night On The Titanic” at 7 p.m. Monday, July 24. Seating for this session is booked to capacity. Reservations are now being accepted for a second session, planned for 7 p.m. Oct. 23. Reservations are required by Oct. 20.

Church group plans abundance meal

MARKLEVILLE — Christian Women’s Fellowship “Comfort Keepers” of East Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 124 E. Main St. in Markleville (East State Road 38), plans its monthly “God Abundance Meal” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, in the lower fellowship hall of the church.

Menu will be chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, assorted desserts and drink.

Dine in or carry out.

The facility is accessible to people with disabilities.
