2023 Christmas in Pendleton Parade grand marshal

Name: Dave Skalon

Age: 56

Family: Wife Tonya; son Taylor, a junior at Purdue University; daughter Tatiana, a sophomore at University of Southern Indiana; and daughter Paulina, a junior at Pendleton Heights High School

Occupation: Army colonel and business continuity planner for the Defense Finance and Accounting Service

What did you think when they asked you to be grand marshal?

It is an honor to say the least. I try to stay involved in the community, but mission often pulls me away. I am glad to give back in any way I can.

Why did you accept the offer?

I have had incredible support from this community as an individual soldier, as an American Legion board member and as a combat veteran. This is a way I can serve the community while paying honor to those who served before me and serve as a representative for those who will serve after me.

Have you been a grand marshal in a parade before? No

What is one wish you have as we begin the holiday season?

I wish everyone peace through the holidays and find ways to laugh through differences instead of looking for reasons to argue.
