PENDLETON

Doug Edwards, 68, of Pendleton, died on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023 after an extended illness.

He was born June 30, 1955, in Anderson, to Hubert & Mary Edwards. He grew up in a loving family in Edgewood and met many lifelong friends throughout school and at Anderson High School (Class of 1973). He recently enjoyed attending his 50th Class Reunion.

Doug retired from General Motors after 30 years. He was a proud UAW Member and union supporter. He also served as a firefighter for over 30 years with the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department, including time as the Assistant Chief.

Doug enjoyed travel, especially when it meant being on a beach or lake; his favorite destinations were St Pete Beach, Lake Michigan and Lake Wawasee. He was also likely to be found in his garage with CNN, Westerns, or late-night talk shows on. He was a great party host and a loyal friend to many. He was also a regular at Scampy’s Annex and made friends with many of the staff & other loyal customers.

Doug is survived by his wife of more than 47 years, Carole (Gibson) Edwards; children, Christi (Alex) Hughes of Pendleton and Jenni (Michael) Burton of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Becklin and Sullivan Salisbury and Michael (“Trip”) and Beau Burton; friend and former son-in-law, Brandon (Amanda) Salisbury. Doug loved being a grandpa and enjoyed the high energy and joy that his grandsons brought to him. Doug is also survived by a sister, Beverly McKinney of Anderson.

In honor of Doug’s legacy of kindness, the family suggests that, instead of sending flowers, you consider leaving exceptionally generous tips for your waitstaff, hair stylists, and other service providers this holiday season. It’s a small gesture that reflects the spirit of generosity that Doug embodied throughout his life.

At Doug’s request, no funeral service or showing will be held. You may express condolences or share a memory of Doug at www.stpierrefamilyfuneral.com.
