GREER, SOUTH CAROLINA — Pendleton Rugby Club returned to Greer, South Carolina with one goal in mind — retain the title they won last year.

They did just that with a perfect 6-0 record at the Greer Christmas 7s Tournament.

Competing against teams from South and North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia, the 38-man squad played in the Gold and Silver divisions. Pendleton had one team compete in the Gold division, and two in the Silver division.

To claim their second consecutive title in the top division, Pendleton won easily fueled by a stout defensive showing.

They held their six opponents to a combined 34 points while scoring 161 of their own. Over the course of the tournament, Pendleton averaged 26.83 points per match and allowed just 5.67 points per match with a scoring differential of 127 points across the six games.

In their round-robin games, they defeated Raleigh (North Carolina) 24-7, Raptor (Tennessee) 26-12, Greer (South Carolina), 21-5, Blue Fear (North Carolina) 26-0, and Oceanside (South Carolina) 40-5.

The championship match was a rematch of last year’s championship and a repeat of a match earlier in the tournament.

After beating them in game No. 2 of the tournament, Pendleton knocked off Raptor once 24-5 again for back-to-back titles.

Last year, they defeated Raptor 31-0 for first place.

Nick Trout led the way for Pendleton with 52 points scored. He scored four tries and was 16-for-21 on conversion attempts.
