Grant to help establish museum garden

PENDLETON — South Madison Community Foundation recently awarded Pendleton Historical Museum a $3,000 Bright Future Grant to establish a community garden.

Museum board president Nancy Noel said the garden will incorporate native plantings and natural hardscape that will beautify the exterior while providing a place for people to stop and reflect.

Once the garden is installed, it will be maintained using proceeds from memorial contributions to the museum.

“It’s sustainable by design with those memorial contributions,” said Tammy Bowman, foundation executive director, explaining part of the reason the foundation board approved the grand.

Bowman said the foundation awards Bright Future grants on monthly basis.

Applications are due on the 15th of each month, and applicants will be notified early the following month. Bright Future grants range from $500 to $10,000.
