PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School varsity choirs continued a successful start to the competition season on Friday at the Plainfield Quaker Classic, where one group won grand champion and the other finished first runner-up.

It was “as incredible evening,” choir director Erin Archer said. “We’ve got some impressive kids!”

In group competition, Emerald Suites was grand champion in the small unisex division, earning Best Visuals and Best Vocals honors. Sophomore Raegan Brown earned Best Performer.

Other schools competing in the division were New Palestine, East Noble and Plainfield.

Pendleton Heights’ other competition group, Pendletones, finished first runner-up in the small mixed division.

Senior Parys Loomis won Best Solo in a performance, and Brown won Best Performer.

Pendletones competed with groups from Batesville, Monrovia, Roncalli, New Palestine and East Noble.

In solo competition, junior Ashley Gilmet placed first of 22 performers, singing “A Story of My Own,” from the musical “A Clockmaker’s Daughter.”

Brown finished third runner-up as a soloist.

The competition season began Feb. 3 at an event at Fishers High School, where Pendletones finished Grand Champions, with Best Vocals and Best Visuals honors in the mixed division, and Emerald Suites finished first runner-up in a treble division.

On Feb. 16 and 17, Pendleton Heights will play host to the Arabian Spectacular Show Choir Competition, during which Pendleton Heights will perform but not compete.

Pendleton Heights’ next competition is set for Feb. 23 at Franklin Central High School in Indianapolis.
