Artists society feature’s photography show

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Artists Society has a photography show running through April 3 at Gallery 119 in Pendleton.

The public can view the show at the gallery, 119 W. State St., during regular hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

PAS also plans the following art classes:

•Pottery Evening Classes with Janae Ledbetter — March 19, 26, April 2 and 23. Class cost is $140 (only $35 a class). Participants will explore textures by using handmade clay stamps created in the workshop on March 5. There will be stamps available for those who didn’t attend the workshop. Classes will include hand building techniques and an chance to throw on the pottery wheel.

• Still Life Painting Workshop with Nick Martin — noon to 4 p.m. March 30. Participants will paint a still-life composed of fresh fruit and vegetables. Instruction will focus on practicing tried and true drawing skills, learning watercolor and clayboard processes, color mixing, choosing a compositional strategy using handmade watercolors arranged in a special palette. Instructed on how to navigate a powerful six-color palette to create vibrant color spaces. Cost is $50 and includes supplies.

• Children’s Art Classes take place on the second Saturday each month. Each class is independent and will need its own registration.

Kids Art Camp 2024

PAS is taking reservations for Kids Art Camp 2024 at Gallery 119.

The theme this year is “Spread Your Wings With Art.”

The camp is for children aged 6-12, and 12 years and up.

Art is age-appropriate and taught by various artists during the week.

Children will display their artwork at the Friday Night Art Show, at Gallery 119 from 6-8 p.m.

Children may sign up for morning or afternoon sessions.

Sessions:

9 am to 11:30 am Monday-Friday (ages 6-12 years)

12:30 pm-3 pm Monday-Friday (ages 6-12 years)

Evening: 5pm to 8 pm Monday-Thursday ( ages 12 and up)

Cost for the camp is $60 a child/$50 for a second child in the same family.

Museum plans speaker series

PENDLETON — Pendleton Historical Museum is presenting a three-part Sunday Speaker Series, with the third and final talk — The Parker House — set for 2 to 4 p.m. April 14 at Pendleton Historical Museum in Falls Park.

Sandi Butler will speak on the history of this historic home located on the hill overlooking Pendleton.

Legion plans activities

PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, plans the following events — open to members and non-members:

Regular events include:

All-you-can-eat wing night — 5-8 p.m. Thursdays, with all-you-can-eat wings costing $12

Lunch specials (as well as regular menu) — starting at 11 a.m. weekdays

Treasure Hunt drawing — 7:30 p.m. Fridays

Pool on Sunday — noon to 8 p.m., no charge

People interested in playing on a tournament euchre team or pool team should call or stop by the post and talk to Dave or Haley.

The Legion’s general membership meeting is set for 6 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday each month. Public is welcome.

Facility is smoke-free.

South Madison schools round-up kindergartners

PENDLETON — South Madison Community School Corp.’s annual Kindergarten Round-Up is scheduled for April 16-18.

The roundup provides an opportunity for parents and guardians to enroll children in the district’s kindergarten program for the upcoming academic year.

All children who turn 5 by Aug. 1, 2024 and parents and guardians can attend round-up.

The roundup takes place on the following dates:

● East Elementary — 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 16 (reserve an appointment ar eesreg.smcsc.com)

● Pendleton Elementary — 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 17 (reserve an appointment at pespreg.smcsc.com)

● Maple Ridge Elementary — 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 18 (reserve an appointment at mrereg.smcsc.com)

Each session will include:

● Meet-and-greet with teachers and staff

● Basic skills screener with each child

● Finalization of registration process

Non-Resident and early entrance applications will be available on the district website on March 4, 2024.

PAS Artfest set for April 12

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s annual Artfest celebration is planned for April 12 at Crystal Coop, 3400 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

There will be a live, silent and basket auction.

Glen Wilson is our auctioneer for this year.

This year is a Western theme. Dinner will include brisket, pork, and chicken, buffalo macaroni and cheese, and barbecued baked beans by Nameless Cratering. A bar will be available.

Tickets will go on sale March 1, with the deadline for ticket sales on April 6. Tickets are $32 per person and may be bought from a PAS member or at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St., Pendleton, 765-778-0986.

Individuals can reserve a table for six to eight people.

OHOP grant applications available

PENDLETON — Applications are now available for South Madison Community Foundation’s annual Open Hearts, Open Purses grant of $10,000.

Open Hearts, Open Purses is the foundation’s Women’s Giving Circle.

In “OHOP,” a group of 100 women each give $100, pooling their contributions toward a $10,000 grant.

The written application is the first phase of the OHOP grant cycle. The second phase consists of finalist presentations and member vote.

The mission of Open Hearts, Open Purses is to provide financial resources to organizations for projects that improve the lives of individuals and families in our communities, specifically those living in Adams, Fall Creek, Green and Stony Creek townships.
