MUNCIE — The senior season for Lapel’s lone gymnast came to an end on the biggest stage of the year on Saturday.

At Ball State’s Worthen Arena in Muncie, Myleigh Carpenter, along with gymnasts from all across the state, competed in the annual IHSAA Gymnastics State Finals.

To get to state Carpenter needed top-six finishes at both the Franklin Central Sectional and Franklin Central Regional.

She did just that in one event — floor.

At the sectional, she placed sixth with a score of 9.325, and at the regional one-upped that score with a 9.550 and fourth-place finish.

She ended her season with an 8.075 and 46th place finish in the state.

Crown Point’s Elsie Kiran won the event with a score of 9.550.

Kiran also took first in the vault with a score of 9.725 and took the all-around title over Franklin Central’s Austyn Dykes. Kiran scored a total of 38.425 points while Dykes scored 38.200.

Dykes took first in both the beam and bars.

Crown Point won the team championship with a final score of 113.150. Following them were Valparaiso (109.250), Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger (108.850), Columbus North (107.825), Bloomington North (107.600), Carroll (107.100), Angola (105.400), Lake Central (104.650) and Bloomington South (101.025).
