ARCADIA–Sophomores Luke Combs and Jesse McCurdy took the top two spots Thursday afternoon to lead the Lapel boys’ cross country team to a victory in the eight-team Landes Invitational at Hamilton Heights.

Junior Kara Lutz placed fifth as the girls’ team finished in third place.

Combs took the 5K event in 16:49, a full 1:17 ahead of McCurdy. Sophomore Carson Huber finished in sixth place and sophomore Killian O’Connor missed out on a top-ten finish by a mere two seconds, coming home in 11th.

The Bulldogs finished with a team score of 45, easily enough to outdistance runner-up Muncie Burris with 69.

Lutz was the first of two Lady Bulldogs to place in the top-ten as junior Noelle Loller finished in 10th. Junior Lauren Smith ran 16th as the Bulldogs scored 89 points in an event won by the host Huskies with 32 points.

The Bulldogs will be running Saturday, September 2 at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational in Marion.
