Arabians boys track third at Southport Relays

SOUTHPORT — Pendleton Heights boys track ran against some tough completion Saturday, April 21, in the Southport Relays, coming out in third place.

Fishers High School finished first with 124 points, Warren Central High School was second with 91 points, and the Arabians scored 75 points, good enough for third place. Warsaw was fourth with 66 points, while Noblesville rounded out the top five with 59 points.

“We beat some really good schools on Saturday and competed well in everything,” coach Bill Coggins said.

The meet started off with the 4×1,600-meter relay, during which Arabian runners Milan Jones, Sean Roan, Luke Upton and Caleb Martin came up with a third-place finish.

Matt Sakeuh got the Arabians the victory in the 110 hurdles against a strong field, Coggins said.

The second victory for the Arabians followed in the distance medley relay, during which Luke Upton, Cole Buck, Jayden Wenning and Milan Jones held off Fishers.

The sprint medley team of Connor Jamison, Anakin Allison, Eli Pancol and Sakeuh turned in a time of 1:37.04, holding off Warren Central for second place.

Sakeuh and Pancol combined for a second-place finish in the long jump. Pancol and Caden McClain jumped to a second-place finish in the high jump.

The meet ended with the 4×400 relay team of Sakeuh, Upton, Pancol and Jones finishing second to Fishers with a time of 3:26.13.

Earlier, the boys track team won its own invitational Thursday, April 19.

The Arabians won with 143 points; Roncalli finished second with 116, Mt. Vernon was third with 99, Rushville fourth with 86, Yorktown fifth with 74, Lapel sixth with 37, New Castle seventh with 27 points, Frankton eighth with 22 and Liberty Christian School ninth with 14 points.

The Arabians started the night by winning the 4×800 with Jayden Wenning, Peyton Burmeister, Caleb Martin and Cole Buck.

For the second week in a row the relay team set the tone for the meet, Coggins said.

Sakeuh won the 110 hurdles.

Jamison was second in the 100, while Upton ran way from the field for first in the 1,600. Upton won by 10 seconds.

The Arabians 4×100 team earned third place as it held off Rushville.

Pancol was the winner in the 400, Sakeuh ran to victory in the 300 hurdles and Jones grabbed first in the 800 run.

Pancol finished second in the 200, and in the 3,200, Roan ran to a third-place finish.

In the high jump Pancol and McClain finished second and third. Sakeuh placed third in the long jump, while Grant Skinner got second in shot put.

In girls action, the team finished near the middle of the pack at the Southport Relays.

The girls earned 56 points for a fifth-place finish. Other final scores were Fishers 127, Warren Central 90, Noblesville 75, Southport 65, Jeffersonville 48 and Fort Wayne Snider 33.

The Arabians started with a fifth-place finish in the 4×1,600 with runners Christina Magers, Maddie McKee, Ashley Alderman and Madison Brunnermer.

In the 4×800, the Arabians placed fifth with the team of Sarah Dudley, Kylah Stout, Sy Carter and Payton Brunnermer.

In the long jump, Patience Sakeuh and Devin Byars combined as a relay team for a third-place finish.

The team of Anna Smith, Alexis Jackson, Marrissa Marshall and Byars placed third in the sprint medley relay.

The distance medley relay team of Magers, McKee, Dudley and Alderman also placed third.

In the shot put, Mckenzie Shoaf and Jonay Miller combined for a fifth-place finish.

In the high jump, Marshall placed fourth, while in the 100 hurdles, Sakeuh and Marshall placed second and fourth, respectively.

The 4×100 team of Byars, Jackson, Daisy Rodriguez, and Sakeuh placed fifth.

In the 4×400, Smith, Marshall, Sakeuh and Magers place fourth.

The Lapel boys track team took part in the Pendleton Invite late last week, finishing sixth with 37 points.

Placing were: 100, Blaine Allen, fifth; 200, Allen, sixth; 400, Tobin Metzger, third, Jakob Addington, fifth; 800, Luke Combs, fifth; 300 hurdles, Malachi Qualls sixth; high jump, Qualls, eighth. Lapel also placed fourth in the 4×800, fifth in the 4×400 and sixth 4×100.

The Bulldogs’ next meet is Friday, April 27, at the Tipton Invitational.
