INDIANAPOLIS — Many turn to online searches when trying to find detailed information on housing, business and people.
The internet can also be a good resource to find out about community schools.
Backgroundchecks.org, an online guide designed to help consumers find free public records via the internet — including background checks, criminal records, court records and arrest records — announced its ranking of the Top School Districts in Indiana for 2018.
The South Madison Community School Corp. ranked No. 59.
The rankings were based on student performance, math and reading test scores, dropout rates, school funding and area poverty rates.
“It is very rewarding to see South Madison Community School Corporation rank in the top 100 school districts in Indiana by this organization,” Superintendent Joe Buck wrote in an email to The Times-Post.
District leaders strive to meet standards implemented by the Indiana Department of Education and the school board. Still, getting recognition from other organizations that look into school statistics and analyzes them is another form of validation for the corporation.
“We are proud of our schools, and having them recognized by an outside organization is an honor,” Buck said.
Indiana has many excellent school districts located in some great, family-friendly communities, the backgroundchecks.com press release said. Children in Indiana legally don’t have to enter school until age 7, but when they do begin classes, they will be well-served by the districts on this list, according to the school ranking program.
Backgroundchecks.org is a public safety organization focused and committed to increasing public safety, community involvement and education, according to the press release.
This was its first year conducting the ranking, Jason Quimby of backgroundchecks.org said.
The top five districts in Indiana on the list are Carmel Clay Schools, West Lafayette Community School Corp., Zionsville Community Schools, Hamilton Southeastern Schools and Brownsburg Community School Corp.
Data were collected from 9,577 school districts nationwide, and the site offered similar rankings in other states.
