Arabians capture sectional crown

FORTVILLE — Pendleton Heights boys track came out on top in the Mt. Vernon Sectional, besting the 12-team field, including participants from Lapel.

Pendleton Heights won the title May 17 with 162 points. Lawrence North placed second with 147.50, Anderson was third with 89 and Lapel finished sixth with 29 points.

The Arabians will send at least one athlete to compete in most of the events at the North Central Regional in Indianapolis, set for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24, including in three relays and field events.

Sectionals feeding into the regional, in addition to those at Mt. Vernon and the North Central, are Decatur Central and Muncie Central.

In sectional competition:

Luke Upton ran to a first-place finish in the 1,600-meter race (4:22.45), while Milan Jones came in third (4:32.07).

In the 300 hurdles, Matt Sakeuh took first with a time of 39.19.

In the 800 run, Pendleton athletes captured first and second thanks to Jones, who finished in 1:56.29, and Upton, who finished in 1:57.26.

In the 4×400 meter relay, it was a first-place finish, 3:23.20, for the team of Sakeuh, Upton, Eli Pancol and Jones.

In the field events, Pancol captured first place in the high jump with a leap of 6-4, while Sakeuh captured first in the long jump with a 21’3.25” leap. Anakin Allison tied for second in the pole vault with an 11-foot effort.

Pancol finished second in the 100 dash with a time of 11.01. In the 200, Pancol finished third in 22.10, while teammate Connor Jamison got fourth in 22.76.

Sakeuh finished second with a 14.76 run in the 110 hurdles, while teammate Seth Ledford came in third at 15.59.

The Arabians finished third in the 4×100 meter relays with a time of 45.32 thanks to the team of Caden McClain, Allison, Ethan Schitter and Jamison.

In the 4×800 relay, the Arabians finished second in 8:21.78, with the team of Jayden Wenning, Peyton Burmeister, Caleb Martin and Cole Buck.

Lapel’s top performers were Tobin Metzger, who finished third in the 400 (51.86), and Luke Combs, who finished second in the 1,600 (4:29.72).
