PENDLTON — Providence Junior-Senior High School in the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility is one of 70 such institutions recognized by the Indiana Department of Education and the American School Counselor Association as having a model program.

Indiana surpassed the record number of schools for one state in a given year receiving the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation.

“I commend our Indiana schools for receiving this designation and for leading the nation in the number of RAMP designated schools,” Jennifer McCormick, Indiana superintendent of public instruction, wrote in a press release. “Receiving the RAMP designation evidences the importance of school counselor leadership, which is foundational for students to be academically, socially and emotionally successful.”

RAMP designation, awarded for aligning with the criteria in the ASCA National Model, recognizes schools committed to delivering an exemplary comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program.

Since the program’s inception, more than 800 schools across the United States have been designated as RAMP recipients.

This year, 140 schools nationwide will received the RAMP designation. Schools recently were honored during ASCA’s annual conference in Los Angeles.
