Master gardeners ready for school

ALEXANDRIA — Madison County Master Gardeners plans its daylong annual gardening school Saturday, Sept. 8, at the 4-H building in Alexandria.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and classes continue through 4 p.m. Lunch is provided. Cost is $45.

Subjects include backyard conservation, native plants, fall and winter gardening.

Church offers night of music

MARKLEVILLE — Markleville East Christian Church will play host to The Davis Harlow Project at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, for an evening of praise through music.

The group is from the Anderson area.

There will be cookies and punch following in the lower level of the church.

Youth theater seeks ‘Elf’ actors

PENDLETON — Studio 3 Youth Theater, part of Pendleton’s Studio 3 Music Academy, will present a musical production of “Elf” and is inviting area youngsters to audition for the show.

The cast is open to students age 7 through eighth grade.

The non-profit studio is conducting open registrations. Auditions are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 12, but anyone who registers will be in the program.

Women’s fellowship plans abundance meal

MARKLEVILLE — Christian Women’s Fellowship “Comfort Keepers” of the East Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Markleville has scheduled its next God Abundance Meal for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the lower fellowship hall of the church.

The menu includes chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, rolls, assorted desserts and drink. A free-will offering will be accepted.

The church is located at 124 E. Main St., Markleville, and is accessible to people with disabilities.

Carryout will be available, and delivery is possible for shut-ins or small businesses in the immediate area.

The next abundance meal is set for Oct. 10.

Retired teachers fall meeting set

ANDERSON — Madison County Retired Teachers Association will conduct its fall meeting Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Anderson Country Club in Anderson.

Registration runs from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Following the luncheon ($15) and a short business meeting, John Longnaker, elder law attorney, and Stacey Hanson from Lifestream will discuss legal and health care issues.

People are asked to bring canned goods for an area food pantry.

Spouses and friends are welcome.

Lapel Lions Club plans fish fry

LAPEL — The Lapel Lions Club 72nd annual all-you-can-eat fish fry is scheduled for 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, Friday, Sept. 14, and Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Lions Club building, 329 S. Main St., Lapel.

Serving times will be 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. all three nights.

The price for an adult all-you-can-eat fish meal is $10.

There will also be children’s meals (not all-you-can-eat) available. Fish, tenderloin and hot dog sandwiches, desserts. and choices of sides are also available.

Entertainment on Friday will be the Lapel High School Band performing at about 6 p.m.

Saturday’s entertainment is the 4-Leaf-Clovers at 5:30 p.m., J.T. Si Fuentes at 6:30 p.m. and the Lapel Show Choir making its debut for the 2018-19 school year at 7:30 p.m.

Drawings for door prizes will begin at 8 p.m.

Fundraiser to honor first responders

ANDERSON — Lil Miracles Pregnancy Resource Center, a non-profit agency in Anderson, is planning an Honor the Badge Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 at Paramount Theatre Centre and Ballroom in Anderson.

There will a luncheon and a concert by Kali Rose.

First responders, spouse and minor children (18 and younger) will receive a free lunch and free tickets to Kali’s concert.

Tickets cost $20 for people 10 and older and $10 for children 9 and younger.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Lil Miracles and Honor the Badge.

Pendleton Heights homecoming coming up

PENDLETON — People interested in being a part of the 2018 Pendleton Heights High School Homecoming Parade should contact Cori Hunckler at [email protected] for an entry form.

Forms are due Sept. 19.

The parade is set for 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21.

It starts at Falls Park and ends at the Pendleton Heights football stadium.

‘Screenagers’ movie screening

PENDLETON — The documentary “Screenagers” will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St., Pendleton.

“Screenagers” is an award-winning film that probes the vulnerable corners of family life and depicts messy struggles about social media, video games and academics. “Screenagers” explores the impact of screen technology on children and offers parents and families proven solutions that work.

Following the film, Stephanie Nancarrow from the Indiana State Police will lead a discussion on related topics. Nancarrow worked at the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) as a family case manager for five years, specializing in sexual abuse cases during her later years. She is now a youth educator with the Indiana State Police and ICAC Task Force educating youth on social media safety.

Jeep show set for Falls Park

PENDLETON — Indiana Jeepsters Jeep Show and Swap Meet is planned for Sept. 29 at Pendleton Falls Park.

Registration is set from 1 to 3 p.m. with awards at 5 p.m.

Awards will include Best of Show, dirtiest, best modded, best original, best modern 2000 and present, best ’90s and best CJ.

There will be food, drinks and music. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the show, and there will be a 50/50 raffle.

Entry fee is $15 on the day of the show.
