Gallery offers variety of art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans art classes regularly at Gallery 119 in Pendleton:

• Oil painting with Bob Ross-certified instructor Gini Deaton — 2 to 6 p.m. Sept. 30. Deaton will lead a wet-on-wet painting class for those wishing to learn the technique made famous by PBS TV artists. Gini teaches with a step-by-step demo and personal one-on-one instructional classes.The painting for this class will be a scenic picture of an old Chevy truck. Supplies will be provided. All levels of painters are welcome.

Cost for the class is $65. Registrations for the class may be made at the Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 at 119 W. State St., Pendleton, or by phoning 765-778-0986 during regular business hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Online registrations may be made at pendletonartistssociety.org/events.

• Oil painting with Katie Burke — 9-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 (with a break for lunch). This month’s painting is titled “Sunflowers in Ball Jar.” The painting will be on a Masonite board, which will be provided. Participants will prepare the background using acrylic paint. Painters of all levels are welcome.

The cost for the class is $55, and materials will be provided to create the painting. (People who use their own brushes and paint pay $45.) Burke teaches oil painting the first Wednesday of every month, creating a new painting each class.

The gallery is located at 119 W. State St.

Bicentennial group to meet Sept. 27

PENDLETON — The Town of Pendleton Bicentennial Committee plans an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Pendleton Historical Museum in Falls Park.

The committee wants to hear from residents what they would like to see take place in Pendleton for the town’s bicentennial in 2020.

There also will be information available about a planned town bicentennial coffee table book: “A Celebration of Pendleton: 1820-2020 — Then and Now.”

Jeep show set for Falls Park

PENDLETON — Indiana Jeepsters Jeep Show and Swap Meet is planned for Saturday, Sept. 29, at Pendleton Falls Park.

Registration is set from 1 to 3 p.m. with awards at 5 p.m.

Awards will include Best of Show, dirtiest, best modded, best original, best modern 2000 and present, best ’90s and best CJ.

There will be food, drinks and music. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the show, and there will be a 50/50 raffle.

Entry fee is $15 on the day of the show.

Quilt guild to talk about internet inspirations

PENDLETON — Spring Valley Quilt Guild will meet Wednesday, Oct. 3.

The color of the month is burnt orange.

Nora Wilson will speak about internet inspirations, and there will be show and tell.

The guild meets the first Wednesday each month except September. Meetings take place in the Community Room of the Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St., Pendleton.

Social time starts at 5:30 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6 p.m. Guests are welcome.

Lapel show choir to perform variety of tunes

LAPEL — Lapel Show Choir is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a show, “Here We Go Again,” on Saturday, Oct. 6.

The title was lifted from a “Mamma Mia!” medley the show choir will perform.

The show choir will be joined by the school’s concert choir, girls ensemble and a few solo performers.

The concert will include a range of songs, including “Dream a Little Dream of Me” and “Witch Doctor.”

The choirs will combine with the Lapel community church choirs to sing the finale, “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”

The show will start at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Children kindergarten age and show choir sponsors are admitted free.

Sponsors should have received their passes by today, Sept. 27. Sponsors who haven’t received their passes should contact the choir.
