Town, church working to finish Bulldog Park

LAPEL — Lapel Park Board met recently to discuss budgets and progress at the town’s newest park — Bulldog Park, located at 2842 S. Brookside Road.

Park leaders learned thousands of dollars will be still needed to complete the park as envisioned, with baseball diamonds, playground and concession stand.

The latest reports show the concession stand is framed in, although an additional $6,000 is going to be needed to add proper windows and doors to the structure.

Park officials also learned they will need an undetermined amount of money to complete the roof on the concession stand.

Help also is needed to finish the interior of the building. The town needs an electrician and plumber to get the inside work done so the building is operational.

The board also discussed concrete work for paths from the parking lot to the building and between the fenced diamonds, expected to cost about $35,000.

E&B paving is installing a walking path around the park.

Town utility workers are expected to install several four-inch drain lines to help keep the park from gathering water.

During the meeting, Tyson Priest from River Church proposed a River Church work day at Bulldog Park to help complete the work.

The board discussed what River Church could do to help, came up with a list and approved its proposal.

Work dates are planned for Saturday, Oct. 13; Saturday, Oct. 27; and Saturday, Nov. 3. Several dates have been suggested as backup in case the work isn’t done or in case of rain.

Anyone who would like to help with the completion of Bulldog Park or donate time and/or money is asked to contact the parks department at [email protected].
