The Kikthawenund Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is celebrating the 231st anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution by receiving proclamations from Madison County towns and cities and distributing pocket Constitutions to local schools. The chapter recently received a proclamation from Pendleton Town Council President Robert Jones that proclaimed Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week and asks “our citizens to reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties. According to Regent Cecilia Calvert of Pendleton, in addition to receiving a proclamation from the town, the chapter has donated 135 constitution booklets and five posters to the fifth-grade classrooms of Pendleton Elementary School and set up a Constitution Week display in the children’s department of the Pendleton Community Public Library.
