Lapel golfer qualifies for state championship

LAPEL — Lapel golfer Kristen Hobbs has qualified for the state golf championships set for Friday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

Hobbs qualified as an individual player and will represent the Bulldogs at state after shooting a 78 at the Lapel regional Saturday, Sept. 22, at Edgewood Golf Club in Anderson.

The top three teams from five state regional sites have advanced to the state finals, where 15 teams as well as the top individual players will be gunning for the state team and individual championships.

The Bulldogs had a strong showing at regional but finished fifth out of 18 teams with a 354 total; only the top three teams advanced.

Columbus North finished first with 333. Richmond was second with 336. Hamilton Southeastern was third, shooting 337.

Chatard golfer Maggie Schaffer was the top individual scorer, firing a 71.

In addition to Hobbs’ 78, Lapel’s team scoring included Lauren Lutz with 87, Sierra Campbell (94) and Chloe Renihan (95).
