CARMEL — Lapel senior Kristen Hobbs finished her high school golf career in a tie for 37th place with a total of 166 at the IHSAA girls golf state championship at Prairie View Golf Club on Friday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 29.

Hobbs shot an 86 on Friday and 80 on Saturday.

While happy to make it to state, she wasn’t thrilled with her opening round of 86, so she changed her game plan and trimmed six shots off her score Saturday.

“I just wanted to play the best that I can,” Hobbs said. “I wanted to do it, basically, knowing that I had nothing to lose after what happened (Friday). I really didn’t second-guess anything and going for every green and every pin that I could, because I had nothing to lose, and I wanted the best and lowest score that I could.”

Hobbs’ golf career will continue at Indiana State next year. She reflected on her four years playing at Lapel.

“It was great getting to know everyone and all the people that I’ve met for all four years of my golf career,” Hobbs said. “Everyone has been helpful to me, and all my teammates have been nice, and they’ve helped me get through everything and support me all the time.”

Lapel High School golf coach Dylan Crosley said he’s proud of his golfer’s accomplishments and has high hopes for what the future might bring for her.

“I couldn’t be … happier for her, and I look forward to seeing her succeed at Indiana State next fall,” Crosley said.
