LAPEL — A dozen members of the Rural Garden Club of Lapel met on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the home of Linda Whisman.

Charlene Hummel, as co-hostess, served a cream pie. Elaine Huntzinger won the door prize, a candle decorated with wax candy corn.

The meeting was called to order by President Jayne Seybert.

Jackie Stephenson led the bird pledge.

During committee reports, it was decided to send a card to the Lapel business Pax Verum Brewery to let it know the club appreciates the beauty of its new outside eating space.

The club will meet at 10 a.m. Nov. 3 at the park in downtown Lapel to decorate the park for Christmas.

Hummel gave the lesson with information from “Garden Gate” magazine. She provided solutions for potential garden problems, such as putting chicken wire over plants that tend to flop over. The plant will grow up through the wire and it will keep them upright.

The garden tip was given by Seybert.

The club will meet Nov. 14 at Seybert’s home. Members are asked to bring paper products for a local food pantry.
