Artists society offers classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans art classes regularly at Gallery 119 in Pendleton:

• Metals and Enamel Class with Tracy Davidson and Diane Burrell — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with lunch break) Oct. 20 and 27. Students will design and create their own copper boxes. On Day 1, each participant will design, set stones, pierce, texture, stamp and assemble their boxes. On Day 2, they will design and create the enamel embellishments to finish their boxes.

The class will cover the use of the jewelry saw, flex shaft drill, enamels and enamel kiln, jewelry hammers, stamps, several types of hand tools and much more.

The class costs $90 for both days and all supplies.

• Painting With Gini Deaton — 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 21 and Oct. 28.

Deaton, a Bob Ross- certified instructor, teaches painting with a step-by-step demo and personal one-on-one instruction. This month’s painting is “Lilac Time” featuring a young lady with lilacs after the artist Sofie Anderson, measuring 20 by 12 inches in size.

The first session will focus on completing all of the background areas, field, hat and flowers.

The second session focuses on the face, dress and finishing touches.

Price for the two day class is $85 with supplies included. There will be a pattern used for the design.

• Learn Watercolor Painting With Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24 (lunch break noon to 1 p.m.)

Crist will teach a new class on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The painting will be of nomads walking through the snow.

Several different techniques will be used in this painting, and students will learn about the supplies being used. The class costs $50 and does not include supplies. A supply list and the picture being painted may be found at pendletonartistssociety.org.

• Character Drawing with George Harris and Samson Hunckler — 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 24.

Instructors will teach a three-hour class called “Character Session.” Models will be dressed in various costumes for both figure and drapery study. Fee will be $20 per person, and participants must bring the following materials: Newsprint pad (18-by-24-inches or larger), vine (soft) and solid charcoal, pink pearl or gum eraser, kneaded eraser, pencils, graphite and (optional) finer papers for extended drawings. People who would like to do ink studies should bring ink and brushes.

The gallery is located at 119 W. State St.

Church flea market set for Oct. 27

LAPEL — A flea market is planned for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 27 at Lapel Trinity United Methodist Church, 217 E. Seveth St., Lapel.

There will be curiosity pieces, one-of-a-kind items, tools and more.

Library offers several programs

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Community Public Library has several activities planned this month. Activities take place at the library, 595 E. Water St., unless otherwise noted:

• Ghost Hunt with PSI (Paranormal Seekers of Indy) — 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at an offsite location. PSI will conduct an investigation in Markleville. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 13 using the library’s online calendar. The address of the hunt will be provided upon registration. The group will meet at the location between 7:30 and 8 p.m.

• Professor Steve presents “The Science of Frankenstein” — 2 p.m. Oct. 28. Professor Steve will tell the story of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” demonstrating many of the concepts found in the book and the movies, including light, anatomy and electricity.

• Biblioteens — 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30. Group for voracious readers will discuss recent horror books read by club members.

• Teen Movie Tuesday: Halloween Edition — 5 to 6:45 p.m. Oct. 30. Library will lead attendees in an interactive celebration of a classic Halloween film. No registration required. Film is rated PG for scary sequences and language.

• World War II Stories — 6 p.m. Nov. 5. Ron May, Indiana author of “Our Service, Our Stories (Volumes 1 & 2),” will share stories of World War II veterans with Central Indiana connections.

Red Cross seeks blood donors

PENDLETON — The American Red Cross is seeking blood donors, and there’s a donation opportunity scheduled in Pendleton from 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at Maple Ridge Elementary School, 8537 S. County Road 650W.

Donors of all blood types are needed to help ensure sufficient supply, a need that is greater after Hurricane Florence and subsequent flooding forced the cancellation of more than 6,000 recent blood and platelet donations.

Homemakers craft expo Oct. 25

ALEXANDRIA — Madison County Extension Homemakers is sponsoring its annual Craft Expo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Madison County Farm Bureau 4-H Building in Alexandria.

It will have several vendors and multiple clubs with displays of crafts, hobbies, special interests, lessons, scrapbooks and goodies.

Featured items include make-it-and-take-it crafts and bake sale items. Door prizes will be given every half-hour. Themed baskets will be a part of the silent auction and will be on display for bidding.

PHHS softball golf outing planned

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights Softball Booster Club will play host to a golf outing to raise money for the softball program. It starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Fall Creek Golf Club, 250 Reformatory Road, Pendleton.

The club is looking for hole sponsors and participants to play golf.

Contests will include Florida Style Scramble, longest drive, putting and closest to the pin.

The first-place finisher will receive $200.

Pendleton Heights class to celebrate

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Heights High School Class of 1973 will celebrate its 45-year reunion at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at The Stable (105 E. State St.) and/or 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Anita’s Kitchen (777 E. Water St.).

Shrine club prepares for bazaar

ANDERSON — Madison County Shrine Ladies’ Club’s Fall Bazaar is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at 2419 White St., Anderson.

A few spots remain for vendors of items such as good clean rummage, crafts, direct sales, jewelry and Christmas decorations.
