Pendleton wrestlers finish second at New Castle super six, Gibson remains undefeated

NEW CASTLE — Pendleton Heights wrestlers won four dual matches and just missed out on a fifth Saturday, Dec. 1, at the New Castle Invitational.

The team finished in second place with a 4-1 record while bringing its season mark to 9-2.

Team captain Caleb Gibson, 145 pounds, continued his impressive early season. Gibson, a senior, earned a 5-0 record for the day, bringing him to 11-0 on the year. Every win has been by pin.

Also going 5-0 on the day were:

• State qualifier senior Tremor Bynum, 195 pounds

• Junior Cade Campbell, 220 pounds, with five falls.

• Freshman Blake Nicholson, 106 pounds, and sophomore Jared Brown 126/132 pounds

Freshman Jake Ehrgott, 126/132 pounds, finished the day at 4-1, including a couple of falls.

Freshman Colin Gillespie subbed for senior Jarod Miller at 160 pounds and went 2-3 on the day.

Freshman Derek Lowder, 285 pounds, went 1-1. In his victory, Lowder stopped a headlock attempt by a junior from Whiteland, then plowed the man over for a 17-second fall.

The team scores were Pendleton Heights 67, Knightstown 9.

In the opening match-up of the day, 12 of 14 Arabian wrestlers were victorious. The lone team total loss on the day came in the second match against North Central, which won 43-36.

The Arabians bounced back and downed New Castle 72-12. They also beat Whiteland, 66-15.

Pendleton Heights then had another solid win to wrap up the day against Beech Grove, winning 60-18.

Girls Arabian wrestlers traveled to Maconaquah for the day.

Pendleton Heights sent five grapplers to the tournament, and all of them had some success. Gracie Addison won one match by fall. Lauren Gamache wrestled five matches and won two by fall. Brooklyn Driver won three of her four matches, all by pin. Allie Kramer won one match, blanking her opponent from Penn by a 12-0 score. Jarah Quiroga also won a match by fall.

The Pendleton Heights wrestling team was set to be on the road Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Alexandria. The meet was not over by press time.

The Arabians return home Saturday, Dec. 8, when they will play host to the Arabian Super Six tournament.
