PENDLETON — An abundance of Christmas cheer filled Pendleton Heights High School earlier this month.

Student who are part of the school’s Best Buddies program worked with area members of Best Buddies to make gingerbread houses.

The gingerbread houses are on display at Pendleton Community Public Library as part of the bigger Friends of the Library gingerbread contest — which took place over the weekend.

Best Buddies pairs students who have intellectual and developmental disabilities with students who do not have a disability to encourage real friendships.

Friends of the Library and the Best Buddies group had so much fun creating the gingerbread houses, they plan to make the Best Buddies creations part of the annual event, said Liza Sexson, Friends of the Library event coordinator.

“It’s exciting to reach out to other organizations and have an event be as successful as this one was for both Friends and Best Buddies,” Sexson said. “This is what it’s all about.”

Best Buddies members’ gingerbread houses were on display at the library for the Holiday Open House Sunday, Dec. 9, and will be there with all the other gingerbread houses that were part of the gingerbread house contest for all to see.
