Legion plans several activities

PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, has the following public activities planned this month:

• 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 17 — all-you-can-eat wings (dine-in or carry-out)

• 5:30 p.m. Jan. 18 — Bingo

• Jan. 18 — Food special: Reuben

• 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 — Treasure hunt drawing

• 1 to 6 p.m. Jan. 20 — medium

• 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 24 — all-you-can-eat wings (dine-in or carry-out)

• Jan. 25 — Food special: $1 tacos/$1.50 supreme

• 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25 — pool tournament

• 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 31 — all-you-can-eat wings (dine-in or carry-out)

• 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 — treasure hunt drawing

• Jan. 26 — Dinner special: Sirloin steak, baked potato, salad

Gallery offers classes, show

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans art classes regularly at Gallery 119 in Pendleton:

• Acrylic painting classes with Diane Burrell — 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22. All levels of painters are welcome to participate. Students will work on their own subject matter; a subject will be provided for people without one.

Most students are working with acrylics but other painting media may be explored.

Focus will be on strong values and color theory. Cost is $15. Participants can bring their own supplies, or they will be provided for $10.

• Coffee and acrylic painting with Diane — 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays, Jan. 18 and 25. Participants will work on their own subject matter in acrylic. All levels of painter are welcome, but this is an ideal beginner-to-intermediate class.

The class will focus on the elements and principles of art and how they are to feather for a good composition. Students will be shown how to plan a color scheme that conveys harmony in a painting.

A supply list will be available upon registration. The class is $15 per session. For people without supplies, they will be provided for $10.

• Portrait Painting 101 — noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays from Jan. 26 to March 2. Award-winning portrait painter David Bradshaw will teaching the step-by-step process and basic techniques of portrait painting in oil.

The six-week course costs $120 and is limited to 10 participants. A supply list is online at pendletonartistssociety.org.

• Etch metal jewelry with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27. Participants will have a chance to design and create an etched bracelet or earrings and pendant set. Copper, brass and silver will be provided. Class cost is $40.

• Annual Art Class Show — Features art by students from various art classes offered at Gallery 119 in 2018. The show runs through January during regular gallery hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The gallery is located at 119 W. State St.

Wine tasting set for Saturday

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society is sponsoring a public wine tasting event from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Gallery 119, located at 119 W. State St., Pendleton.

This will be a fundraiser to help with the building fund for the gallery.

One Hope Winery and Kathi Meyer will play host to the event.

Visitors will be able to sample wines and learn how to pair them with foods.

Group continues collecting photos

PENDLETON — The Town of Pendleton Bicentennial Committee is accepting photos and information relating to the town’s past and present for a coffee table book called “A Celebration of Pendleton: 1820-2020 — Then and Now.”

The committee wants pictures and information related to agriculture, buildings, businesses, churches, local events, schools, transportation, and legends and lore.

The book also will have a patron section, which will be available for a charge to Pendleton businesses, churches, families and organizations. Those who purchase a page or half-page will be able to submit photos along with a written history.

All submitted materials will be returned.

The book will cost $39.95. People can order it at mtpublishing.com (enter “Pendleton” in the search field). A digital version is available for $9.95.

Local blood drive planned for Jan. 28

PENDLETON — An American Red Cross blood donations opportunity is set for 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at First United Methodist Church, 225 W. State St., Pendleton.

People can make an appointment to donate blood or platelets by downloading the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 800-733-2767.

Journaling workshop coming up

“Journaling for Spiritual Growth” will be offered from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays from Feb. 3 to 24 at Fall Creek Meeting of Friends, 1764 W. State Road 38, Pendleton.

Workshop leader Marti Matthews is the author of “Pain: The Challenge and the Gift,” articles and a blog.

Sessions will include reflections on what people have learned from life experiences, what they feel called forward to, writing on spiritual topics and voluntary sharing.

The cost to participate in all sessions is $30.

Students to Europe dinner is Feb. 19

LAPEL — Students to Europe 2019 plans a chili dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at the Lapel High School commons area.

It was set for Dec. 14, but the basketball game against Beech Grove has been postponed to February.

Adult meal ticket price is $7, and the student ticket price is $3.

This price includes chili with fixings, a hotdog and a drink. Desserts will also be available to purchase for $1.50.

This meal will take place before the Beech Grove boys basketball game.

People can purchase tickets in advance from any of the participating juniors at Lapel High School.

Tickets will also be available at the door.

Profits from the fundraiser will help students pay for their trip to Europe in the fall.
