Library ready to celebrate

PENDLETON — National Library Week is April 7-13, and the Friends of the Pendleton Community Library are leading programs to show appreciation for Pendleton Community Public Library and its staff.

Below are remaining activities for the public with a theme of “Libraries = Strong Communities.”

Psi Phi egg hunt set in Markleville

MARKLEVILLE — Psi Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority plans its annual Easter Egg Hunt at noon Saturday, April 13, at Markleville Community Park, just west of Markleville on State Road 38.

There will be three age groups up to age 10.

There will be pictures with the Easter Bunny and drawings for Easter baskets full of goodies.

Scouting for Food is Saturday

PENDLETON — April brings Boy Scouts of America’s annual Scouting for Food program. On Saturday, April 13, Pendleton Scout Troop 232 will blanket Pendleton and the surrounding suburbs with 1,500 grocery bags.

Residents are asked to consider filling them with non-perishable food items.

Scouts will return after 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, to pick up filled bags left at front doors.

Filled bags also can be brought to the Pendleton Heights Middle School lobby from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Food donations support Pendleton food banks and the library’s Read ’N’ Feed program.

Troop 232 has been sponsored by Pendleton Lions Club since 1926, making it the oldest troop in Madison County and the third-oldest in Indiana.

This year it is being joined by Pendleton’s newest troop — Troop 262 — sponsored by Pendleton First United Methodist for young girls.

Art Fest to include BBQ, auction

ANDERSON — Pendleton Artists Society is planning an Art Fest, Art Auction & Bar-B-Q for 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Crystal Coop, 3400 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

Included is Greenfield’s BBQ, a cash bar and The Stable. Dennis Jackson will be auctioneer.

Tickets for the event cost $25 per person or $180 for a table of eight. Tickets may be purchased at Gallery 119, located at 119 W. State St., Pendleton, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturday, by phone at 765-778-0986 or online at pendletonartistssociety.org.

‘Friends’ plan quarterly meeting

PENDLETON — Friends of the Pendleton Community Library’s next quarterly meeting is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 18 in the Community Room of the library, 595 E. Water St., Pendleton.

Friends helps organize events at the library and in the community, and people interested in learning more about the group or becoming involved are welcome to attend the meeting.

Shred Day coming up in Pendleton

PENDLETON — The eighth annual Shred Day at SecurEstate is scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. April 20, at 100 S. Main St., at the corner of State and Main streets in Pendleton.

The company conducts Shred Day as a community service and to raise awareness of securely disposing of documents in an eco-friendly manner.

Ray’s Trash will have an industrial shredding truck at the office, where people will be able to watch their documents being shredded.

The event is open to the public, and there is no limit to how much people can have shredded.

Painting class planned at gallery

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans the following art class at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St. in Pendleton:

• Watercolor with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 24. The subject of the painting will be a sunflower and butterfly. There will be a lunch break. Class fee is $50. Supplies are required; visit pendletonartistssociety.org/events/ for a supply list.

Doctor offers skin cancer screenings

ANDERSON — Dr. David L. Martin plans skin cancer screening exams at no charge in his office at St. Vincent Holy Cross Medical Arts Building, 2101 Jackson St., Suite 201, Anderson.

Screenings are offered as a public service for skin cancer awareness.

Screenings will take place May 2, 6, 7, 15, 20, 24 and 29.

Lions offer vision screenings

PENDLETON — Operation Kid Sight, an Indiana Lions Eye Bank Inc. program, will offer vision screening for children (18 months to 6 years) from 9 to 11 a.m. May 2 at Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St.

The check will use the PlusOptix screening system, during which a digital photo/measurement of a person’s eyes is taken from three feet away.

The screening will take place in the Children’s Department.

A parent consent form must be signed before the test is done.

There is no charge for the screening.

Rummage space available at park

MARKLEVILLE — Markleville Community Park will rent spaces to vendors during the State Road 38 Sale on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4.

There are restrooms in the park, and the Kappa Delta Phi Sorority will have a large food booth in the shelter house.

Money from rent is used for maintenance of the park.

Cruise-in, style show fundraiser May 19

PENDLETON — Pendleton Historical Museum is organizing its “Sunday on the Back Porch” car cruise-in and Women’s Style Show on May 19 in Falls Park.

The cruise-in is scheduled for 11 a.m. An area in the park will be blocked off.

The style show is set for 2 p.m. and will feature fashions from Ella June’s Boutique in Greenfield.

Pendleton Kiwanis will sell K-Burgers.

Proceeds will benefit the ongoing log cabin project in Falls Park.

Artists Society offers Kids Art Camp

PENDLETON —

Pendleton Artists Society is planning Kids Art Camp for July 15-19 at Gallery 119.

Participants will work on various age-appropriate art projects culminating in a show of their work at the end of the week.

Cost for the camp is $60 per child ($50 per additional child in the same family living in the same house).

Class consists of the following sessions:

• Ages 6-12 — 9 to 11:30 a.m. (Limit 30 children)

• Ages 6-12 —12:30 to 3 p.m. (Limit 30 children)

• Ages 12 & up — 5 to 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday (Limit nine children)

Registrations will be accepted only at Gallery 119 or by phone. (No online registrations.)
