Legion offers public activities

PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, has the following activities planned:

Dinner special: Pulled pork and chips; 8-ball pool tournament (6:30 p.m.); treasure hunt drawing (7:30 p.m.)

Wrestling event helps food effort

PENDLETON — A professional wrestling show, Arabian Rumble, is planned for Friday, April 26, at Pendleton Heights High School, One Arabian Drive, Pendleton.

The event is a fundraiser for the Summer Make and Take Meal Program, an effort by Pendleton Heights’ WEEM 91.7 Radio and Fall Creek Christian Women’s Ministry to assemble breakfast and lunch food boxes for local students and families.

Arabian Rumble features current and former performers from around the area and organizations such as WWE, Impact Wrestling, ECW and more.

There is no entry charge for the wrestling event, but donations will be accepted for the meal program.

Donors can give via check made payable to WEEM with “Take and Make” in the memo line; checks should be mailed to WEEM, One Arabian Drive, Pendleton, IN 46064.

Jewelry, painting planned at gallery

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans the following art classes at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St. in Pendleton:

• Jewelry with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 28. Davidson will teach participants how to make a stone ring with a textured band. She will show how to create bezels to fit stones, soldering, sizing and texturing bands. The class fee is $50 per person and includes choice of stones and sterling silver band. If vision is limited it may be helpful to bring a magnifying glass or reading glasses. Class size is limited to eight.

• Oil painting with Katie Burke — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 1. The subject for the class is a colorful seascape. There will be a break for lunch. The class fee is $55 with all supplies provided. The fee for people with their own paint and brushes is $45.

Power Up! breakfast Tuesday in Lapel

LAPEL — Madison County Chamber of Commerce’s Lapel Power Up business networking breakfast is scheduled for 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at First Merchants Bank, 1011 N. Main St., Lapel.

The breakfast will focus on the Lapel, Pendleton and Anderson areas.

There is no charge for the breakfast, which includes a light meal and coffee.

Quilt group to meet at Pendleton library

PENDLETON — Spring Valley Quilt Guild will Wednesday, May 1, at Pendleton Community Library, 595 E. Water St., Pendleton.

Social time begins at 5:30 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6 p.m.

Speaker will be Tish Wright on “Use of Social Media in Quilting.”

Members have tickets for sale for the 2019 Raffle Quilt. The quilt will be raffled at the quilt show in September.

All those interested in quilting are welcome to attend.

Methodist church plans dinner

PENDLETON — United Methodist Men plan a chicken ’n’ noodle dinner for 5 to 7:30 p.m. April 26 at Pendleton First United Methodist Church, 225 W. State St., Pendleton.

Cost is $10 for 13 and older, $5 for ages 5 to 12 and 4 and no charge for 4 and younger.

Doctor offers skin cancer screenings

ANDERSON — Dr. David L. Martin plans skin cancer screening exams at no charge in his office at St. Vincent Holy Cross Medical

Arts Building, 2101 Jackson St., Suite 201, Anderson.

Screenings are offered as a public service for skin cancer awareness.

Screenings will take place May 2, 6, 7, 15, 20, 24 and 29.

Lions offer vision screenings

PENDLETON — Operation Kid Sight, an Indiana Lions Eye Bank Inc. program, will offer vision screening for children (18 months to 6 years) from 9 to 11 a.m. May 2 at Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St.

The check will use the PlusOptix screening system, during which a digital photo/measurement of a person’s eyes is taken from three feet away.

The screening will take place in the Children’s Department.

A parent consent form must be signed before the test is done.

There is no charge for the screening.

Chicken noodle dinner set for May 3

PENDLETON — A Pendleton Historical Museum fundraiser dinner is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at the Community Building in Falls Park.

On the menu are chicken and noodles, green beans, mashed potatoes, roll, dessert and drink.

Tickets cost $8 in advance or $10 at the door.

The meal is sponsored by Citizens State Bank. Proceeds benefit the museum.

Jazz dinner, silent auction coming up

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights Jazz Café and Silent Auction is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Pendleton Heights Middle School cafeteria.

Performing will be the middle school jazz band and Pendleton Heights High School jazz, combo, jazz express and jazz ensemble groups.

Costs for the dinner and show are $8 for people 11 and older and $5 for those 10 and younger. The cost to see the show only is $4.

Rummage space available at park

MARKLEVILLE — Markleville Community Park will rent spaces to vendors during the State Road 38 Sale on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4.

There are restrooms in the park, and the Kappa Delta Phi Sorority will have a large food booth in the shelter house.

Money from rent is used for maintenance of the park.

Sorority to offer food booth, rummage

MARKLEVILLE — Psi Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi will offer a food booth serving sloppy joes, hot dogs, chips, drinks and baked goods during the State Road 38 Sale Days on May 3-4.

The chapter will also have a rummage during the two-day event, with a portion of the proceeds supporting their “Psi Phi Sisters & Friends” Relay for Life Madison County Team.

Members will be in the shelter house at the Markleville Community Park on State Road 38, just west of Markleville.

Lapel high school music shows on tap

LAPEL — Lapel Choral Department has upcoming shows, starting with one at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, during which the show choir will perform new music and new dances and take some sentimental looks back at the year.

After the concert, there will be a celebration for all with punch and cookies in the commons.

Blood drive set for May 5 in Markleville

MARKLEVILLE — An American Red Cross blood drive is set for noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 5, in the gym at North Christian Church, 32 N. State St., Markleville.

Women’s golf group to start season

PENDLETON — A new women’s golf league will start its “Chicago Style” golf tournament at 9 a.m. May 6 at Fall Creek Golf Course.

The weekly tournament runs Mondays through Sept. 23.

Birdies and chip-ins will be tracked and rewarded, as will tournament wins at the end of the season.

There is a $50 fee to cover league fee and establish IWGA handicap.

A “get acquainted social” is planned for 6 p.m. April 30 at Big Lug, 250 W. Reformatory Road, Pendleton.

Cruise-in, style show fundraiser May 19

PENDLETON — Pendleton Historical Museum is organizing its “Sunday on the Back Porch” car cruise-in and Women’s Style Show on May 19 in Falls Park.

The cruise-in is scheduled for 11 a.m. An area in the park will be blocked off.

The style show is set for 2 p.m. and will feature fashions from Ella June’s Boutique in Greenfield.

Pendleton Kiwanis will sell K-Burgers.

Proceeds will benefit the ongoing log cabin project in Falls Park.

Artists Society offers Kids Art Camp

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society is planning Kids Art Camp for July 15-19 at Gallery 119.

Participants will work on various age-appropriate art projects culminating in a show of their work at the end of the week.

Cost for the camp is $60 per child ($50 per additional child in the same family living in the same house).

Class consists of the following sessions:

• Ages 6-12 — 9 to 11:30 a.m. (Limit 30 children)

• Ages 6-12 —12:30 to 3 p.m. (Limit 30 children)

• Ages 12 & up — 5 to 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday (Limit nine children)

Registrations will be accepted only at Gallery 119 or by phone. (No online registrations.)

Outfitters seeks volunteers

PENDLETON — Outfitters, a non-profit organization that provides clothing to families in need in South Madison County, is in need of volunteers to help with its spring/summer shopping season.

There is a need for shopping assistants as well as for people to help restock clothes, sort donations and tag laundered clothes.
