Giving circle seeks new members

PENDLETON — Open Hearts, Open Purses, South Madison County’s women’s giving circle, is seeking new and returning members in its 10th year.

Open Hearts, Open Purses is built on a model of attracting 100 members each year who will contribute $100 toward a pooled $10,000 grant.

The grant is awarded to a community organization following a member vote each June.

In its first nine years of existence, the group has awarded more than $120,000 to local projects.

$100 memberships will be accepted through May by sending a check to: South Madison Community Foundation, 233 S. Main St., Pendleton, IN 46064, or donating online at www. SouthMadison Foundation.org.

June Jamboree coming up

PENDLETON — Pendleton Lions June Jamboree is scheduled June 4 to 8.

Discount ride tickets may be purchased at Citizens, Star or First Merchants banks. Tickets are also available at Pendleton Travel or at the Pendleton Lions booth located in front of Great Clips.

Purchase of the discount tickets saves $5 by buying the tickets early.

Jewelry, painting planned at gallery

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society offers art classes at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St. in Pendleton.

• Oil Painting With Katy Burke — 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 5. Burke will teaching how to paint “Lily Pads and Heron” with pass-through light. The painting will be done on a 16×20-inch canvas, and all supplies will be included in the $55 fee. For students using their own paint and brushes, the cost is $45.

• Pottery class with Janae Ledbetter — 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays in June and one day in July for glazing. The class will explore several techniques, including hand building and working on the pottery wheel. Each student will be able to choose an object to create from several options. Cost for the class is $80 and includes all supplies. Class size is limited.

• Learn to oil paint with Gini Deaton — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 9. Participants will paint colorful clouds in a scenic painting called “Cloudscape.” All supplies needed to paint the picture are included in the $60 fee. People are asked to bring paper towels. Class size is limited.

Lions breakfast to help fire victims

LAPEL — Lapel Lions Club plans a benefit breakfast for Matt and Holly McClintick from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at the Lions building, 329 S. Main St., Lapel.

The McClinticks are teachers in Frankton-Lapel schools and active in the community. They lost their home, possessions and two dogs in a recent house fire.

The breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee.

The cost is a free-will offering, and funds will be given to the McClinticks to help with replacement items.

Quilt guild to meet in Noblesville

PENDLETON — Spring Valley Quilt Guild, which normally meets in Pendleton, will have its June 5 meeting at Always in Stitches Quilt Shop, 1808 E. Connor St., Noblesville.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. with a demonstration of the Handi quilter.

Always in Stitches will conduct a private sale for the guild.

The regular meeting with show and tell will begin following the demo.

Pendleton swim club plans lessons

PENDLETON — Pendleton Swim Club is planning swim lessons on Saturdays beginning June 8.

Markleville church plans monthly meal

MARKLEVILLE — Christian Women’s Fellowship (C.W.F.) “Comfort Keepers” of the East Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Markleville have set 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, for its monthly “God Abundance Meal.”

The meal will take place in the lower fellowship hall of the church. The menu includes: chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, rolls, assorted desserts and drink. A free-will offering accepted.

The church is located at 124 E. Main St. (State Road 38), in Markleville and is accessible to those with disabilities. There will be carry-out available; shut-ins or a small business in the immediate area that would like carry-out delivered can call the church at 765-533-4996 on the day of the meal or Diane at 765-533-2330.

The next Abundance Meal is planned.

Workshop to discuss cemetery preserving

PENDLETON — A cemetery preservation workshop is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Grovelawn Cemetery Maintenance Barn, 537 N. Pendleton Ave.

Participants will receive hands-on experience preserving historic gravestones in the cemetery.

The workshop will be led by tombstone restorer John “Walt” Walters of Graveyard Groomer in Connersville.

Jeannie Regan-Dinius of Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology will be speaker.

There will be a $10 registration fee. A brown bag lunch will be provided.

Artists Society offers art camp

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society is planning Kids Art Camp for July 15-19 at Gallery 119.

Participants will work on various age-appropriate art projects culminating in a show of their work at the end of the week.

Cost for the camp is $60 per child ($50 per additional child in the same family living in the same house).

Class consists of the following sessions:

• Ages 6-12 — 9 to 11:30 a.m. (Limit 30 children)

• Ages 6-12 —12:30 to 3 p.m. (Limit 30 children)

• Ages 12 & up — 5 to 8 p.m. Monday-Thursday (Limit nine children)

Registrations will be accepted only at Gallery 119 or by phone. (No online registrations.)

Fitness program starts Aug. 5

PENDLETON — EnhanceFitness, a 16-week arthritis management and fall prevention program, will start Aug. 5 at Pendleton YMCA, 520 Falls Park Drive.

This program meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Fridays.

Outfitters seeks volunteers

PENDLETON — Outfitters, a non-profit organization that provides clothing to families in need in South Madison County, is in need of volunteers to help with its spring/summer shopping season.

There is a need for shopping assistants as well as for people to help restock clothes, sort donations and tag laundered clothes.
