Lapel’s Combs qualifies for state

INDIANAPOLIS — Finishing third in the 1,600-meter run at the North Central Regional, Lapel’s Luke Combs qualified for the Indiana High School Athletic Association Boys Track and Field State Finals set for Friday, May 31, at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Combs placed third — the top three in each event advance — with a time of 4:17.85. He also placed eighth in the 800 run with a time of 1:58.99. The Bulldogs’ 4×400 relay team of Jakob Addington, Brice Everitt, Jesse McCurdy and Combs finished 11th in 3:33.92.

For Pendleton Heights, Nate Spencer finished fourth in the high jump (6’3”), and Andrew Harvey was fourth in the discus (140’).

The Arabians had competitors in a number of other events, too.

Nick Taylor was fifth in the pole vault (12’), and Harvey added a sixth-place finish in the shot put (51’2”).

In running events, Pendleton Heights’ 4×800 relay team of Caleb Harrington, Jayden Wenning, Milan Jones and Sean Roan finished eighth in 8:33.82.

Seth Ledford was ninth in the 110 hurdles (15.52 seconds) and 13th in the 300 hurdles (42.64 seconds). He finished just behind teammate Ethan Schitter in the 300. Schitter placed 12th in 42.31 seconds.

Ledford also led off the Arabians’ 4×400 team that placed 13th in 3:34.99. Others in the group included, Seth Leicht, Trevor Ellyson and Ethan Ross.

In distance races, Jones was 13th in the 800 (2:03.69). Roan finished 15th in the 3,200 run with a time of 10:37.25.
