Sakeuh qualifies for state meet

INDIANAPOLIS — Pendleton Heights’ Patience Sakeuh won one event and finished in the top three in two others at the Ben Davis Girls Track and Field Regional on May 21.

With her performance, Sakeuh qualifies, in all three events, for the Indiana High School Athletic Association Girls Track and Field State Finals, set for June 1 at Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University Bloomington.

Sakeuh won the long jump with a distance of 18’2½”. It was two and one-half inches better than second-place Shaunyae Sowell of North Central.

The Arabian junior was a very close second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.66 seconds. The winner, Beth Barnes of Bishop Chatard, finished in 44.58.

In the 100 hurdles, Sakeuh placed third with a time of 14.95 seconds. It was another extremely close race. Chanler Robinson of North Central won in 14.64. Ayana Parchman of Lawrence Central finished in 14.92.

Pendleton Heights was 10th of 25 teams that scored at regional.

Also for Pendleton Heights, Katie Jones was 10th in the 3,200 run with a time of 12:08.10. Teammate Riley Hays placed 13th in 12:19.33.

In the 4×800 relay, Catherine Dudley, Hays, Madison McKee and Delaney Busby were sixth in 10:24.37.

The Arabians were eighth in the 4×100 relay. Sakeuh, Maddie Terrell, Emma Konkle and Kylea Lloyd clocked in at 52.77 seconds.

The team of Bailey Pippin, Terrell, Mycala Brinker and Lloyd were 14th (4:28.48) in the 4×400 relay.

Lapel’s lone participant, Paige Rich, finished 15th in the 800 run with a time of 2:38.99.
