Society art show continues at gallery

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Summer Art Show is scheduled through July 31 at Gallery 119, located at 119 W. State St.

Artist George Harris will have his art featured at the show during the month for public viewing.

Regular gallery hours are 11 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Library Friends meeting is today

PENDLETON — Friends of the Pendleton Community Library’s quarterly meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 18 in the Community Room of the library, 595 E. Water St.

Friends is a volunteer group that helps with events at the library and in the community such as Reading Friends, Lucky Duck Races and a gingerbread contest.

It also provides funds and volunteers for library activities such as Mornings with Mommy, Donuts with Daddy and summer reading programs for all ages.

The public is welcome to attend.

PHHS Class of 1974 reunion in works

PENDLETON — A Pendleton Heights High School Class of 1974 reunion is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Edgewood Country Club.

The cost of $35 per person includes dinner and music with Jim Noggle as DJ.

Those interested in attending who did not graduate in 1974 are welcome.

Veterans program preview coming up

PENDLETON — An informational meeting for REBOOT Combat Recovery — a program aimed at helping combat veterans and their families heal from the spiritual and moral injuries of war associated with post-traumatic stress and combat trauma — is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at Fall Creek Christian Church, 1102 W. County Road 700S, Pendleton.

The 12-week course begins Sept. 10 and provides a blend of clinical insight with faith-based support for combat veterans and their loved ones seeking answers to defining questions about life, death, meaning and purpose.

Childcare and a pre-discussion meal are provided on a weekly basis to remove barriers of entry for families seeking help. Organizers encourage the participation of spouses and affected family members because trauma impacts the whole family.

Park concert series continues July 28

PENDLETON — The Sara Howe Trio will perform a concert at 6 p.m. July 28 in Falls Park as part of the 2019 Concerts in the Park series.

The concert will take place near the park gazebo. There is no admission charge, and refreshments will be available.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own chairs.

The series is sponsored by Pendleton Lions Club.

Pendleton Heights High School Marching Band and Madison County Band Directors are scheduled for Aug. 25.

Elementary school plans registration

LAPEL — Lapel Elementary School new student registration is planned for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 30 to Aug. 1 (closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.).

Students new to the school district should come during this time to register.

New students are required to show proof of residency when enrolling.

Incoming kindergarten students must show proof of residency, along with a copy of a birth certificate and current shot record.

Current students should mail their payment after July 22 to Lapel Elementary School, 2865 S. State Road 13, Lapel, IN 40651.

Sorority plans dinner, baked goods auction

MARKLEVILLE — Psi Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi’s annual chicken noodle dinner is scheduled for 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Markleville Park Shelter House during the Markleville Jamboree.

The menu includes chicken noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans or applesauce, dessert, iced tea or lemonade.

The cost is $8 for people 11 and older and $4 for people 3 to 10. There is no charge for children 3 and younger.

The sorority will also offer a baked goods silent auction and a gift card tree raffle.

The park is located at 2649 State Road 38 west of Markleville.

Fitness program starts Aug. 5

PENDLETON — EnhanceFitness, a 16-week arthritis management and fall prevention program, will start Aug. 5 at Pendleton YMCA, 520 Falls Park Drive.

This program meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Mondays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays, and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Fridays.

Parks board plans public forum

PENDLETON — Pendleton/Fall Creek Township Parks and Recreation Board is playing host to a public forum at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15 to gain input on how the public would like to see the park system evolve.

Attendees will be able to share thoughts with the planning team; a presentation and live polling are planned.

The board wants residents of South Madison County to share what they value and envision for the future.

The meeting is set for the Community Building, 299 Falls Park Drive, Pendleton.
