Markleville culvert projects wrapping up

MARKLEVILLE — A new look is here, and another new look is coming.

Markleville has a new website, one town council President Daniel Roseberry said he hopes residents will check out to learn more about happenings around their community.

Another new look also is on its way, and it will help residents and other travelers get around the community, too.

Roseberry said two culvert projects, one at South State Street and the other at Home Avenue, are near completion. He said both should be finished in the next couple of weeks.

The Home Avenue culvert project has been in the works for more than three years, Roseberry said.

Barricades erected because of the project have kept Home Avenue from being a through street for some time.

“It’s been our biggest undertaking, from financial struggles to other hurdles,” Roseberry said. “It’s great to say that (Home Avenue) is finally going to get open.”

New look online

People visiting the longtime Markleville town website are being redirected to the new online home.

The web address has changed to Markleville.in.gov.

Roseberry said Madison County Council of Governments is the website host.

“I hope it gets people more active (with the town),” Roseberry said.

He said there were three main focuses of the site: to have town documents, such as ordinances and grant applications, available for the public to view; to have approved town council minutes, other town meeting minutes and a calendar of events a click or two away; and to recognize the contributions of town employees, such as police, firefighters, council members and commission members.

“Ninety percent of the people that make up our town departments are volunteers, and we wanted to focus on recognizing those efforts,” Roseberry said. “All three efforts are already beginning.”

Roseberry said residents are welcome to visit the new site and reach out to him or councilmen Kevin Allen or Matt Gustin if they see any information that needs to be updated.
