PENDLETON — While every day at Pendleton Falls Park arguably can be called a community day, the park and Pendleton Urban Forestry Committee have set Saturday, Oct. 19, for its official “Community Day at the Park.”

“The day will be dedicated to promote park pride, park beautification and community,” park executive assistant and Friends of Falls Park member Denise McKee wrote in an email to The Times-Post.

“Basically, the first half of the day will be devoted to giving opportunity for the community members/groups/organizations to plug into some fun service projects, such as planting trees, planting tulips, painting and cleaning projects,” McKee wrote.

“The second half of the day will be kicked off by a short ceremony — ribbon cutting ceremony for new developments at the front of the park as well as planting a tree in memory of the 2019 Memorial Day Tornado followed by some fun activities.”

Activities will include tours of Pendleton Historical Museum, demonstration of how to plant a tree, an art activity, games/scavenger hunt, storytime, corn hole, yoga and more.

Registration is set for 9 to 10 a.m.; service projects are planned from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; welcome and ceremonial tree planting are set for 12:30 to 12:45 p.m.; and fun activities are set for 12:45 to 3 p.m.
