MADISON COUNTY — A Fortville man is facing several child molesting charges after a teenage girl came forward to say he had inappropriate contact with her several years ago when she was in elementary school.

Dennis D. Mickow, 64, 7700 block of West County Road 1050S, Fortville, has been arrested and charged with four felonies.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the girl reported the crimes in 2018. She told authorities she was 9 or 10 at the time of the crimes, in 2012-13, and was in either first or second grade. Among the allegations, shared with officials at Kids Talk Child Advocacy Center in Anderson: Mickow raped the girl once and molested her several times, the affidavit said.

The events reportedly happened when the girl went to Mickow’s home in Madison County, where the girl often visited with a family member to help Mickow clean his house, the affidavit said. (The address is listed as Fortville, but the residence is north of the Hancock/Madison county line.)

The girl’s relative, interviewed in October 2019, told officials he’d often take the girl to Mickow’s house at Mickow’s request. The man told officials he thought Mickow’s behavior was odd, “too grabby, huggy” around the girl. The man said the behavior “creeped him out,” the affidavit said.

On one occasion, the girl’s relative told investigators, the girl brought a girlfriend with her to Mickow’s home and that Mickow had walked into the bathroom when the girls were showering. The friend vowed to never go back to the house again, the affidavit said.

Police interviewed Mickow in November 2019 at the Pendleton Police Department, the affidavit said. He denied ever going into a bathroom with young girls and denied he had inappropriate contact with the accuser.

A case against Mickow was opened in Madison County Circuit Court 6 on Dec. 23, according to Madison County Court records. A warrant for his arrest was ordered Dec. 31 and was served Jan. 1.

He faces charges of Class A felony child molesting with a victim under age 14; a Level 1 felony child molesting where the defendant is at least 21; a Class F felony count of child molesting; and a Level 4 felony count child molesting, fondling or touching a child under age 14.

Mickow was released on a $35,000 surety bond, court records show. He has an attorney conference slated for Jan. 23.
