FISHERS — A record-setting day at the pool got even better the day after.

Pendleton Heights placed third at the always-tough Hamilton Southeastern Girls Swimming and Diving Sectional on Saturday.

The Arabians set three school records:

• The 200-yard medley relay team of Lily Brooks, Kaitlyn Wheetley, Emma Robison and Karly Riffey swam a school-record time of 1:50.28.

• Sophomore Grace McKinney was sixth in the 200 freestyle and also broke the Arabians’ record in the event with a time of 1:55.52.

• The 400 freestyle relay team of Riffey, McKinney, Jaima Link and Robison added a third new mark, placing third with a school-record time of 3:39.64.

The news for the 400 team improved Sunday when the IHSAA released the pysch sheets listing competitors for the upcoming state finals preliminaries, set for Friday at the IU Natatorium.

It included the Arabians quartet as one of the 32 teams in the event.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association selects 32 competitors/teams to participate in each of its 12 events at state.

First-place finishers from each event at 20 sectional sites in Indiana earn automatic bids for state competition, as do those who meet state-qualifying standards.

Any remaining spots go to the competitors with the next best times.

Fishers won Saturday’s sectional with a score of 556. Hamilton Southeastern was second with 491. Pendleton Heights totaled 277 points in the nine-team field.

The top 16 in each event of Friday’s preliminaries advance to Saturday’s IHSAA State Finals. The top eight vie for the A final; places 9 through 16 are in the B Final.
