Facial pain group to meet virtually

PENDLETON — The Facial Pain Association-Indiana Trigeminal Neuralgia Support Group plans a virtual meeting with Dr. Kenneth Casey at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15.

Dr. Casey is a neurosurgeon known throughout the TN community. He is affiliated with multiple hospitals in Michigan, including Beaumont Hospital-Grosse Pointe and Beaumont Hospital-Taylor, and is chief of neurosurgery at Oakwood Southshore Hospital.

Run for the Fallen starts in Pendleton

PENDLETON — Run for the Fallen, a memorial run from Fort Wayne to Indianapolis honoring fallen service members from Indiana, will travel from Pendleton to Indianapolis on State Road 67 on Sunday, May 16.

Local blood drives coming up

PENDLETON — The American Red Cross has scheduled two upcoming blood donation opportunities in Pendleton: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, in Falls Park, 299 Falls Park Drive, and from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 7, at Fall Creek Christian Church, 1102 W. County Road 700S.

People can make appointments by downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 800–733-2767 or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.

People of all blood types can give blood, and, in most cases, those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine can donate.

Outfitters Gala set for May 22

PENDLETON — Outfitters Inc., the non-profit organization that helps clothe children in South Madison Community School Corp., is planning its annual gala as a virtual event, including a “gift box of goodies” to help celebrate at home.

“The 2021 Benefit Gala may look different, but Outfitters Inc. still needs your help to help fulfill the mission of Clothing Children,” a press release states.

The gala, with a theme of “A Night With The Stars,” will involve streaming the event and interacting through devices.

The gala will include auctions, raffles, live entertainment and cocktails.

A silent auction begins at 8 a.m. May 17 and closes at 8 p.m. on gala night.

Gallery 119 offers art classes

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 is offering art classes with a limited number of students.

The next scheduled classes are:

• Oil Painting With Gini Deaton — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 16. Deaton and students will paint a Bob Ross oil painting called “Evening Seascape.” Class fee is $50 and includes all supplies. Participants are asked to bring paper towels. All levels of painters are welcome. Class size is limited to six.

• Watercolors with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 22. In this beginner watercolor class, Crist will teach participants to paint a bird on a limb. Supplies are included in the $40 fee.

• Jewelry Class with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 23.

Davidson will teach participants how to make mix metal earrings, including cutting, texturing, forming and creating sterling earwires. Cost is $40 per person and includes use of tools and supplies. Class is for ages 12 and up. Class size limited to six.

Gallery 119 offers Kids Art Camp

PENDLETON — Registrations are being accepted for the 2021 Kids Art Camp at Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119.

The camp runs for the week of July 12 to 16.

Children ages 6 to 12 can register for the morning session, which runs from 9 to 11:30 a.m. daily, or the afternoon session, which runs from 12:30 to 3 p.m. daily.

Children will work on age-appropriate artwork with various artists. Snacks will be provided.

Both sessions are limited to 30 children.

Children ages 12 and older can register for the evening class set for 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It has a limit of nine children.

Cost is $60 per child per session and $50 for the second child from the same family living in the same home.

Summer reading program coming up

PENDLETON — Pendleton Community Public Library’s summer program is set for June 1 to July 12.

The reading theme is “Tails and Tales,” and library patrons can participate virtually, using the Beanstack Tracker app.

There is a children’s program, a teen program, and an adult program.

People can register individually or with family members, and the app tracks everybody’s reading activity in one place.

Participants earn badges, accept reading challenges and win prizes.

United Way Diaper Drive is on

ANDERSON — United Way of Madison County’s annual Community Diaper Drive started recently and runs through June 4.

The Community Diaper Drive is a community-wide donation effort, done in partnership with local businesses and organizations, to stock local baby pantries with diapers for struggling families.

Local businesses and organizations partner with United Way in the drive by permitting collection boxes at their locations. Some conduct internal drives among employees, and others serve as public collection sites where anyone can stop by and drop off diaper donations.

Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St., is a drop-off site.

Diaper donations can also be made online by visiting United Way’s Amazon Diaper Drive Wish List at unitedwaymadisonco.org/amazondiaperlist.
